Best EGT placement ????

Default Best EGT placement ????

Can the EGT sensor be place in the down pipe for more of an Average reading ?

Now the important question... WHICH is #3? Is it #3 from the distributor or #3 from the crank?

Also, what should the EGT readings be? My buddy on his shadow tunes his car to 1600-1650 deg Farenheit, but his motor isnt aluminum.

#1 cylinder starts near the primary engine drive (timing belt), #3 cylinder is two cylinders away from the distributor. Try to keep it within 1" of the manifold falnge if possible.
Installing the EGT probe in the DP will work but this gives an average temp of all cylinders and after a slight amount of cool down. If one cylinder is having a/f issues it may be masked by the other well running cylinders and you may not know you have a problem until too late. You can not accuratly compare those readings with readings taken from the #3 runner.....they will not match up.

EGT's are best used as tooling tools to use in conjunction with a good wideband sensor.

Seriously. And I respond to these everytime the same way. #3 cyclinder BEFORE the turbo. Within 3" of the exhaust port.
