Default GSR turbo with a B16 tranny? pros and cons?

I recently noticed a crunch in my third gear at high rpm. I know it's not my "terrible" shift work, it's been verified by others to be there.

So now it's time to start thinking about a tranny change. Someone suggested going with a B16 tranny, shorter gears should equal fun right? So what should this cost me, any pros and cons?

Did a search and I couldn't find much, so please help!

Alot of times, a b16 tranny is better for allmotor cars. Alot of people will tell you, including my self, to go with a LS tranny for a turbo set up. If you have some time and cash , then I would also think about a B16 tranny with a lower final drive. That way you'll keep boost up, have have shorter gears but longer drive time in those gears. You'll stay in peak power for longer. But a LS tranny is great for turbo. You won't shift as much and you'll get lots of boost time. Its up to you but I say for money sake go for an LS.

I went from the B16 tranny to the LS and shaved 2 tenths and picked up a couple mph by not having to do the 4th-5th shift.

Goes to show that LS's are the way to go.

Do a quick search and you might be convinced otherwise. I personally have the B16 trans. I think the trans selection basically weighs on your power, tire size and driving style (street/strip).

Turbo setup with a B16 tranny, I don't think so. I think the LS is the best way to go but its all about the setup, too.

Well, at least you'll spend more time building boost rather than reaching (and using) full boost (peak output).

Damn, this issue was worn the **** out years ago....but here it is, popping up again. Doh!

gsr tranny for turbo. Helps to stay in vtec when shifting.

Put the LS vs GSR tranny debate to bed, GSR is definitely the better way to go, read all the archive posts about it.

haha, I knew I seen something like this on HT before, but I could not find it in the archives. Maybe I'm just keying in the wrong search terms. But so far it seems that a B16 tranny would be great for street driving? I dunno about the LS trans, my car is in the low to mid 200 whp range (guestimate), so wouldn't the longer gears hurt acceleration? And btw, my car is a porker by HT standards plus i ride on 17"rims. I know that kind of combination isn't very popular here on ht, but bear with me guys and share your opinion on the tranny.

Also, I hear different things from people regarding tranny work. some people make it sound like fun to put in/rebuild new/custom gears, and some swear taht they would not try it at all. Any thoughts?
