Default How To Install Coils (stock shocks)

Got a pair of cheap coils given to me, unknown brand but I know there for a 2gen crx and they are adjustable so I want to put them on. I want to drop my car about 2inches, Im also using my stock shocks. Ill be doing a nice suspension setup down the road, this is temporary and my brother says Im on my own for this one.

I dont know much about suspensions so youll have to go easy on me. I also dont have any power tools and a spring compressor but I do have a spare set of tires I heard could absorb the spring or something

Can anyone help me on how to do this properly?

Or have a link?

EDIT

Heres a pic of my car from the Auto trader ad form which I bought it, bone stock there. Now has my brother slipstreams on it with Azenis and a zc motor and a zex kit if Im allowed to borrow it from my bro. Maybe a little photoshop could happen?

Search feature isnt working and gives me a maintenance message or something

I want to do this Thursday night and maybe friday morning, but I want hopefully to be done for a cruise on friday night

I will post pics if I get any cool retarded language help

Buy a spring compressor. They can do a number on you. Nothing says ouch like a spring popping you in the head/body. Weaking up dead is an option too.

Buy one? No, I would use it rarely and I dont have the money

Maybe I could rent one if I found a place, but if theres a way to install/remove/assemble springs without it, Id prefer that way

You can get one cheap from autozone. Two cargo straps may work also. I like having new tools!

autozone lets you borrow spring compressors for free..just put down a deposit....i did this on my car...its a horrible ride just to let you know...it looks awesome its just the ride is horrible and most likely your rear springs will be short...

OK besides all that b.s. and yeah it is the safest way to do it but there are plenty of other ways. Basically you have to take your shock out jack up the car and all that there should be one(?) bolt on the bottom connected to the A arm take that out then get the two nuts off under the hood When the shock assy. is out the spring compressor or if you use enough hose clamps to compress the spring or use nothing/ you will have to hold the shiny part of the shock and take the nut on the top off when it gets near the end be carful it will pop off so the safe way is to not let anything hit you when doing it
and in doing all this I belive all you need is a 14mm and a 12mm socket

The ghetto way:

Take off the shock/spring together. Lay them on the ground, with the top side facing a wall.
Loosen the top nut a little...if you feel some pressure, brace the spring and strut against the wall, take off the nut.
It helps alot if you throw a thick blanket over the shock, and have some one heavy stand on it.

THIS IS NOT SAFE. But you ask I deliver.

Ya I guess I could just grab a spring compressor, but how do I actually get the shock/spring asembly out?

Can I just remove the 2-3 bolts at the top inside the car for both front and back

And then what else has to be removed

Search. We just had a thread ALL ABOUT how to get the shock/spring assembly out and back in. It's not hard - basically, you get under the car, pop off the wheel, and unbolt stuff that's holding it in. Make sure to unbolt the top of the assembly from the shock tower (2 nuts in either the engine bay or trunk area).

Nothing will pop out at you when you remove it from the car. The spring has a cap at the top of it that needs to be removed first before the spring will ever pop out. that cap is removed when the entire assembly is removed from the car.
