Default vtec problem

I just swapped in the h22a4 w/us p13 ecu a couple of weeks ago and i am having a problem with my vtec. the ecu is running fine but my cars check engine light is coming on the cel is for a bad knock sensor. what i need to know is do i need to run a knock sensor w/this ecu for vtec to work. the car only revs to 6500 and another ht member told me i need a knock sensor to run vtec unless the ecu was overrided to not run a knock sensor. I have already checked the vtec solenoid and the screen checked the wiring and oil and everything seems to be fine. i already searched the archives and i didn't find a solid answer. do you guys have any other suggestions before i take the head off

so vtec usually won't kick in if the knock sensor isn't working unless the p13 is chipped to override that can someone clarify this for me. i'll replace the knock sensor if that doesn't work it could be from inside the motor when i tried to check the oil pressure the gauge didn't rise up at all also when i removed the bolt to check the oil pressure i saw little black particles on the other end of it which is very odd for a motor w/800+ miles.

i would suggest changing your oil anyway if its real dirty. usally break in time is 500 miles on new parts, then its new oil time. That should have been one of the first things you did right before/after installation of your new motor. No reason to pull the head. replace your knock sensor first before doing anything else

If you havn't already done what 98typesh said I would do so. And then make sure the oil levels are correct.

h22a4 is a 5th gen USDM spec motor, which if im not mistaken, run on a p5p ECU. Im not sure running a p13 would work to your advantage, and may cause some problems as the JDM h22a differs slighty than an h22a4

yes i did get a check engine light but it would only come on until i hit 80 mph +. after i turn off the motor and start it up again the cel would go away
