How do i tell if my new motor is really JDM??
Im got this engine from, apparently a bad place. It came dirty as hell, all the pulleys were rusted and every hose was cut. I would like to make sure it is LSD equipped and REALLY jdm... It is in fact stamped "B18C" so thats a plus and it has a "LSD" stamp on the tranny housing. its a P72 ecu for sure but thats all i know. HOw can i tell?
to tell if its lsd for sure look thru the differential, if u can see straight thru it then it has LSD, if there is a medal bar thru it then it is not. if it is stamped b18c only, not b18c1 or b18c5 then u got urself a jdm motor. HTH's

I was really lucky...my friend later that week after finding out about mine went and the best he could do was a 94 that was fairly clean. i guess i got lucky.. forgot the name of the yard...it was almost 3 years ago..but I do remember it was located in rancho cordova in N.cali.
I agree only that some JDM motors look like *** when you get them, but I also think that they're usually in good shape. Of all the JDM motors I've seen at the shop here, i've NEVER seen one with a gunked-up or even brownish valvetrain that is indicative of not changing oil. I'm talking at least 20 motors here.
The reason they cut everything is due to TIME. I've always been one to want to see the car my motor came out of - let's me know better how it was driven. There are some salvage yards here in the U.S, lke Import Auto Slavage in N.C that get WHOLE JDM front clips and do NOT cut anything when removing the swap.
We've got a '96-spec JDM ITR swap sitting on the floor here, with ECU, axles, linkage, WIRING HARNESS, etc. EVERYTHING. So, if you look hard enough, you can even get a complete JDM swap too.

actually JDM owners do change their oil every once in a while, but most times they just use this stupid vaccuum system whereby you insert a hose in the oil filler cap location and suck out maybe 3 litres if lucky, when you get a JDM motor, run it for the first time on 3 1/2litres of oil (cheap kind) and one litre of ATF for an hour, this is the best internal engine shampooknown to man.
why does the O2 come out, we are mixing ATF with oil, not fuel?
Let me know, I would be interested to know why

why would you put atf in with the oil????? that just doesnt sound right....
Ask any "old school" Hot Rod mechanic and he'll tell you the same. It's a 50+yr proven technique.
So i put 1 quart of ATF in with the oil (1q ATF + 3.1q oil) and just run normal for 3000 miles then change the oil without putting the ATF in?
i beleive for the atf fluid you run it through a vacumm line and not in the actual oil line so that it combusts and runs throught he vavle train but im sure i could be wrong.
You can ensure a JDM tranny housing by checking for VIN stamp.
The holes that mount the Vin havent been tapped for the VIN screws.
The B16B I have sat for a while, rust on axles and #2 spark plug hole.

I got a 98 LS for $700.. it was clean as hell and probably had less then 5K miles on it. I bought it back in 99 and it was stamped 6/98.. visit the yards and you can get lucky like I did. Order by mail and get a beat up engine no one wants..
