I am looking for any and all information anybody has on upgrading A D15B7 Sohc Civic DX/LX camshaft with that from a D16A6 Sohc Civic/CRX Si. It would be great if some one could make a short write up on this if they have performed it. I am curious to hear about it. Thanks.

yes it can be done. will also need an adj. cam gear to fix the 1/2 tooth on timing belt.

 

Tooth on timing belt? The A6 and B7 have the same cam gear and head. I have an A6 head on my B7 block, I noticed little to no gains in power, I don't think it is worth it. The A6 only made 108 hp from the factory compared to the B7's 102, and the A6 made the extra 6 hp with displacement, not the better cam.

 

the timing will be off by either 3.75 degrees retarded or advanced, an adj. cam gear will fix it.

The A6 cam and the B7 cam are different, A6 cam is more aggressive, bigger lobes. Have you ever taken out the two cams and compared them??? And yes they are off by half a tooth. I did this swap on my d15b7 and at higher RPMs it really opens up

 

just make sure the cam is retarded and you can run the stock gear. it will pull a little better up top anyways.

 

Opens up up top? Hmm, I guess, I suppose I don't remember how slow my car was with the B7 head, still seems pretty slow.

 

will a d16a6 STOCK cam gear work on the b7 head?

or do you need an aftermarket D16a6 or a D15b7?

how do you retard it? how do you know how many degrees its off?

 

I have this in my hatch. But instead of using just the cam I used the whole head and used a b7 gear and it's running on a b8 cx block(same as a DX b7 block) and it pulls pretty good in the upper range. I notice once you hit 6k you know a big noticeable change. This is with a CAI, dc 4-1 one piece, act 8lbs flywheel, lightweight crankpulley on a stock p06. I actually like this better than using a z6 head since you don't have to deal with the timing problems or timing belt issues and having to get a p28. I just used the whole head since I didn't feel like readjusting the valves after swapping the cams. best bang for your buck and your stock nonvtec dizzy bolts right up like perfect. You even use the same timing belt thats on your 1.5 engine. The dx and a6 heads are from the same cast but just swap the gear with the b7 gear and it'll be fine.

 

don't even bother. the time you spend on swithing cams is not worth for the hp.
best to get a performance cam for the head you are using and it will gain more hp.

 

I installed the a6 head while I was assembling the engine so it wasn't already in the car but since it was a cx anything is better than 8v head. If the engine is already in your car i'd just stick with whats in it also. I mean if your on a budget than by all mean go with the A6 cam but if you got the cash to get a better cam then just don't waste your time doing everything.
