Which CF hood to buy?
I want a CF hood for my car, but I dont know the difference between all the brands out there. Which brand fits the best? Do you have to use hood pins?
Does anyone know what brand this one is? I like it.

What's the weight on the FI hood? I recently saw a really nicely made cf hood (I don't know the brand) but was alot heavier than other more poorly made hoods I've felt. I too would like to get one, but the primary reason is the weight savings (the bad-*** look is a nice bonus though

cf hoods suck...all they do is eventualy turn gree, dont line up, start to crack and u get pissed when everyone and their mote has one.....unless its Spoon...If it aint spoon dont buy it, stock hood is better than cheap cf hood

The only reason to buy a CF hood is to reduce weight. If you're buying it "because it looks cool", then your motives grow in moist paddies and come steamed or fried from Yum Wok down the street. (this is not an attack on anyone, don't worry, just wanted to get that out there).
Also, if you get a CF hood, you loose a major crumple zone on your car, and indeed you've got a very rigid guillitine aimed at your neck in a head-on. the mounting points aren't designed (on most hoods, spoon may be an exception) to do anything but keep the hood on, which poses a significant safety risk. As i witnessed with a local 300ZX nailing a guardrail at an AutoX, the hood was designed to flex and bend, and the hinges were designed to be strong enough anchors to keep the hood from paying the driver a visit. If you get one, you might wanna have a rollcage to deflect it upwards.

I want one to lose weight and because they look good. There is nothing wrong with changing the looks of your car. People use the word "rice" way too frequently.
That's my hood, and to be honest...its not really worth it. Sure it looks cool, but like Aleph said, ur taking a risk if u ever get into a frontal collision....as well getting hood pins is a biatch. Mine looks ok in the pic, but actually its like 1-2 mm higher than the fenders on both sides...i guess I still have to fine tune it a bit...as far as it turning green and stuff - just give it a coat of UV protecting clear coat, and u wont have that problem

Here's another pic of my hood, and the 2nd pic really shows how it sits slightly higher ... i still have to fix it but I think that's the best I'm going to get it to fit

Toda party: I have the exact same problem with my hood, except it is a bit higher than that on the sides. I also have the front weather strip on it. I didn't trust the hood though, so I put on some pins.

DG and TC are supposed to be really good, though.
The best I've seen personally are the Kaminari hoods. Weave is tight and clean, and fitment is oem. I plan to get one eventually.
Also CFHood on this board is the guy to direct your questions to. He has lots of experience in many different manufacturers and styles of cf hoods...
As far as safety goes, this isn't aerospace quality carbon fiber - it will crumple and break in a colision - so no it won't come flying through your windshield either.
Hood pins will definitely give you peace of mind with one of these such items though.....
The Kaminari CF hoods have a Lifetime warranty (no one else I know has that) and the fit and finish are excellent. They have been around for 30 years and make some of the nicest body parts available. They are somewhat expensive, but you pay for the quality. I plan on getting one in the next couple of months.

to that. I agree 100%. I had a chance to get one a short time back and the quality was top notch. The only down side was the fact that it had a ram air scoop on it, so I sold it after only 3 days. Best cf hood I've ever seen for real! I plan on getting a plain one from them soon - after the power mods are well taken care of first! Besides, I just might get a jdm front end and then what good will that usdm cf hood be?
Anyone who is interested: just do a search under topics I've created and you'll see the pics. They're big, so that's why I didn't post them in this thread. I didn't want to ruin it for you guys on dialups.
