New engine, price. What do you think?
Ok, a guy over here where I live bought an engine built by Ericks Racing.. he told him it had 300whp and well he bought for 12-13k.
B18C.
Stock crank, sleeved to 84.5mm with forged internals.. 13:1 compression.
The head is fully built, Alaniz port and polished with Toda D cams and STR sprockets. Stock oil pan, guirdle, oil and water pump.
This is only the longlblock nothing else...no accesories.
The engine arrived new, with 0 breaking process and told him his engine did not needed a break in.
I'm arguying with a guy over here that says that since he is a top engine builder and since he has built tons of engines like this he does not need a dyno to know how much power that engine produces.. so he blindly believes him it produces 300hp..
I'm saying that is BS.
What do you guys think... did he or did he not got raped??

300whp? I don't think so. I do think he spent too much though. With everything you say, he should have spent around maybe 8-9k at the most? 12-13k is retarded. Tell your friend he should have gone turbo or contacted me!
SOo he bought just the motor for 12 -13k.....ummm ya
to that. i dont care how much power it makes for that much money he could have got damn near anythin he wanted
and if i spent that much on a motor and some1 told me it made 300 hp it better make 300 hp and with no dyno to prove it i would have def not paid that much

Yup, for 12K you could have bought a 91 Miata, bought the Panache 5.0 V8 kit, bought a 5.0, done some shopping in Summits catalog, and had 350Hp/300TQ all motor, all reliable, and frightenly fast!

Anyway just because you guys don't think it's worth it he probably does
however I've seen a couple 300+WHP runs and the 13K is not the whole story because tuning is needed in order to produce numbers in which case what he says becomes secondhand to his dyno sheet
I very much respect Erick and most of the work I have seen (It's hard to argue with a proven winner anyway)
anyone who needs clarity can visit http://www.jgenginedynamics.com and paruse the dyno section. Some #'s are optomistic but at least 1 of there 300 motors has been verified by another tuner so make up your own mind

Sorry I'm not meaning to knock you or your friend.
I just can't rationalize how a 300Hp 4 cyl can go for 13K when a stock LS1 with more power (and better gas mileage in this case I'm sure) only goes for like 2K. Then again I can't see how 160Hp B18C5 or B16A3 go for 5-6K.....Honda's are just way too over priced.
Plus when you add that to the fact that Honda's are rediculously vandelized, its just a risky investment at that level.
