Default guage cluster question.

i was doing a guage cluster swap today, from a LS to GSR. everything works fine in the GSR one but the gasmeter. i have half tank of gas, so i just set the needle at the middle of the meter. but once i start the car, the needle start to goes down, and points E eventually...
any idea why is that? TIA

Wait, did you say you moved the needle? I may be an idiot when it comes to gauges, but I thought the rule of thumb is don't ever F with the needles. I thought it is electronic and will adjust it's self when you turn the car on.

On a side note, I knew a guy who removed his needles on his WRX to put white gauge face plates on. DOH! He had to buy a whole new cluster.

You are correct about not moving the needle on our gauges... EXCEPT:

You can move the fuel needle around...it doesn't matter as its suppose to move back to its original location once the fuel is sensored and sent back to the gauge positioning.

What year is your car, and what year did the doner cluster come from? You may have to switch the plastic film from the original cluster in order for everything to work properly, however it's also very possible that something is fucked up.

I had one like that. I took the needle off and spun it around about a million times and it works fine now.

Good to know. But if it will move by itself then I would have a tendancy to keep my 10 thumbs off. Other than that, loose wire maybe. Why did the original cluster owner sell it? Could have been bad before you got it.
