?? Helping a friend, b16sir2 (98) in a 97 civic hatchback..BIG QUESTION BOUT VTEC!!
While i was working today, i had this customer come in with what he calls "a b16 sir 4"...he says that he was told something that it is a asian VERSION???....i really dont know much bout the b series world, so the problem that the guy says that he was having is in his VTEC. He says that he has no vtec pressure and that there is no line hooked to the solenid..i looked and seen a fitting in the solenid just sealing the hole.???? Now the question is, is there such a asian VERSION , and second how can he solve this problem to actaually use his vtec.?????

regarding the "JDM" version... he first said that the engine was from japan and then proceeded to tell me that the engine was a asian version....so i really have no clue...like i said, when i looked at the engine the solenid was sealed up.......
my interior motive to figure out this is becuase the guy is now trying to sell the engine for 9 bills...i would like to pick it up..but want to figure out the vtec issue first....

when i did a swap for a friend. i have seen that vtec assmebly that come sealed vtec presssure switch port. duno why that engine come like (jdm b18c). what i did go to the dealer and buy a new vtec assmebly that have the vtec pressure port. be sure that the car or the swap have the right vtec ecu.

Some JDM engines do not have a VTEC pressure switch at all.
If you get the same ECU that came with the engine then this is NOT a problem at all - the ECU won't even look for a VTEC pressure signal.
If you have to run a USDM ECU such as a rechipped P28 the solution is super easy:
Take a VTEC solenoid assy from any 92-95 SOHC VTEC engine, or any USDM B series engine and swap it onto the JDM engine.
Very simple.
