Ground loop isloator???
Had my car up at the stereo shop to clean the mess of wires I had in the car. Also had to have new speakers installed. I had a really bad whine in my speaker that got even worse when the lights were turned on.
They cleaned up all of my wiring, checked out my grounds and cleaned everything up for me. Even had a simple amp rack installed in the back so my amps were mounted and looking clean.
Well the guy was saying that the msd could be a reason I am getting that whine in my speakers. They went as far as installing a few filters to eliminate as much of the noise as possible.
Since there still is a small amount of noise I was thinking of just getting a ground loop isolator and hooking it up to see if that helps at all.
What I need to know is:
1. Is this worth trying?
2. Since I have two amps (one 2 channel and one 4 channel) Would I need more than one of these ground loop isolators???

if your talking about the one that plugs through the rca connectors then i would say no... i would get the one that plugs into the power wires imo works better.. they sell them at radioshack i believe.
The whine you hear that gets louder when you turn on lights is "altenater whine"
[ a whine or sireny kind of sound that increases in pitch as you rev. motor]
This can be caused by a number of things, but not your MSD, that would be ign.noise [ a high speed ticking noise that increases in speed as you rev motor]
Alt. noise is almost always caused by improper wiring of the audio system, poor grounds, where wireing and RCAs are run, poor connections.
One of the biggest problems I see in wiring is[if running of wiring is ok] ground loops, or the differance in ground of differant pcs. of the system
I haven't used a choke [ for power] or ground loop isolator [for RCAs] in a very long time to get rid of noise, I have always been able to get rid of it by proper "wiring", that said, one of the hardest noise problems has been in a mismatch of the systems componants, [some brands of HU,sig.pro., amps just don't like to be hooked up together] so if this is the case with you ,try plugging in a diffarent HU. hope this helps

The noise that I get doesn't change as the car revs....its just a low whine in the speakers....can really only notice it when the volume is all the way down or very low.
