Default Post your sub boxes and speaker set up.

I just put 12" Pioneers and a sony amp in my 88 CRX Si. My box just does not fit in my car. Except for sidways that is. I'm going to make a custom sub box and I would like to see how your set ups look.

So honda tech's post your sub's please.

I have two 10's in the back of my hatch right now.. they're just in a box sitting sideways in the back.. strapped down.. although I'm thinking changing and having one 12" instead, but dont know where/how to mount it.. so hopefully some replies in this topic will help.

Gonna be replacing my my Spare tire cover with a piece of 3/4" Baltic Birch, with a square hole cut out inthe middle. Into this will be a up-firing Adire Audio Brahma 12" into a .9 cu ft box. Then on the left/right will be my Tsunami 1100dB to power teh Brahma, and my Orion 8004 to power my components, MB Quart PSD 216's, which I will run active off the Orion's Xovers (Thing can Bandpass ). No pics of anything yet, and it'll prob be awhile till I get done, almost 1/2 way through the deadening.

For SPL purposes, Up firing ported boxes work best in CRXes, with the port facing the rear. In fact, this is known as the "crx box."

Lankor, how big is your box, what size are you planning for in the future, sealed or Ported? I'd say take out your Spare, as it will probably become unaccessable anywho, and do a fiberglass Enclosure for the sub(s).

Sick hatchem, You could try those ratcheting ties used for securing things on trucks. I would recommend bolting though, as it's good for anti-theft, and good if you get in an accident

Also, you could try fiberglassing sealed enclosures for over the rear wheel wells, and using 2 8's. I was thinking of doing that for fun...

How much space do you guys need exactly? I can fit a good 2-3 cu ft under my cargo cover.

Box size is 15x15x15.
12" Cerwin Vega/MTX amp
Box stuffed w/polyester.
3" port facing front.
Sub facing up.
It's a good setup for my 88 hatch.

Speaking of strapped down... I have a pioneer sub in a crappy 10" box. And it slides around like the mad. If I brake hard enough it slams into the rear divider and makes it fall down.
Any suggestions on a good way to strap it down without it looking hella ugly or having to make a custom compartment...

You can use some hooks (They are threaded like a bolt) and put one or two of those around. Then you can use them as anchors for when you tie them down. You just need good anchors for straps. Or Bolt it down.

15" Clarion Pro-Audio (XW series) running 600-700w rms.
US Acoustics USX 800F
Pioneer 3-ways
Clarion MP3/WMA/CD deck

Decent system. Looking to sound deaden then pickup a new sub/amp/components (JLw7/JL 1000.1/JL Mid's-Tweets/NEW ALTERNATOR)

12" Phoenix Gold XMAX. it's sitting sideways on the right hand corner with an L-bracket to keep it from sliding left and right. the rear strut bar keeps it from sliding back and forth.

well if you are planning on goin to shows and what not you should fiberglass one 15 or which ever you prefer over your spare tire have it raising up like a volcano and thats major points at shows if your spare is still accessable!!! but screw the systems and get a b16 if dont already have one

Front: 6.5" Cerwin-Vega components, tweeter mounted beside door handle.
Rear: Alpine Type-s 6.5" 2-way's
Sub 12" MTX Thunder 6000 in custom Fibreglass spare tire enclosure.
Amps: Eclipse 4x50, Fosgate 200x1

System is very loud, and weights 50lbs MAX for everything (Fibreglass is oh so light) and VERY strong. I actualled closed my garage door on the top of the sub box by accident. not even a scratch.

Awsome set up. I will be making a box very much like yours some time soon.

Do you have any tips or suggestions about making one? Mine will be made out of wood instead of fiberglass.

I've got tips for making wood boxes:
1. Use 3/4" MDF or 1/2" -3/4" Baltic Birch Plywood. Birch is quite a bit lighter, and more rigid, but about 2X the cost.
2. I use a circular saw to cut my edges, but I have a 4-foot piece of Aluminum that is shaped like an L, and I clamp this down and use it as a straight edge.
3. Stick with good old Carpenter's glue, I use an exterior grade, bu don't waste your money on things like Gorilla Glue, Elmer's makes the joint as strong as the wood, no point after that.
4. If adventurous, use Dowel Rods instead of Screws to hold things together while the glue sets, looks WAY better when all is done.
5. Use Silicone along all the seams on the inside when it's done to seal everything up nice. AND WAIT 24hrs before securing your sub in, Acetic Acid (released during curing) eats untreated foam surrounds, and better safe than sotty
6. Use a jog saw for cutting out the hole if you're on a budget, and take your time.

That's all I can remember for now.

damn... that should pound the **** out of a rex. i have 3 10" jl w3v2 in my rex. could not even begin to imagine 1 let alone 2 w7s. how are you going to fit both of those in your rex? you need hella air space in the box for a w7 and there is not that much room in the back.
