best ls cam
im going with an ls motor (n/a) and i was wondering wats the best aftermarket cam for it? and which would be the best place to get it and would i need to also upgrade the valvetrain?
crower cams are decent,they make a few diff lobe designs for the ls head,and valve train can remain stock if your not going over 7500rpms ,its all about what your lookin to do really

Exactly... Upgrading the head on a non-vtec head doesn't show a lot of gains.
If you're dead set on it, take this post as a bump... Sorry, it's just I rarely ever see gains with NA 1.8 non-vtec...

Take the money you plan to spend on **** like cams, i/h/e and stuff like that and buy a turbo kit. This way you can actually be fast. Something I have seen hardly any all motor honda do.

maybe he just wants to go all motor. he might do some track time, who knows? he just asking what's a good cam for ls!
Crower makes good cams for ls, try 403's or 404's. Do a search in all motor forum on these cams and see what people think.

VTEC is just a cam profile. If your LS has the same cam profile as a big VTEC lobe, then what's the big deal? It may come down to a question of port shape, size, and manifold flow, but those things are easy enough to work on when you pull the head. I just don't understand why people say to just swap on a VTEC head for all these mad gains. Cams can do the same thing if done properly.
Of course, the higher compression of a VTEC motor from the factory helps it a little, and the maps are more aggressive it seems. But you can still cure all those issues on a non-VTEC motor.

Oh hell yes. Turbo > NA all day. I'm just saying that I think that people who preach the gospel of VTEC don't understand it very well when compairing to an LS or the like.
As a matter of fact, I run a turbo on my B20. Not done being built yet, but I didn't see a reason to use a VTEC head when I could just port, match, and cam it into the same league as any VTEC or better. Actually, I got a lot of crap from other customers at a local speed shop. They would tell me that old wives tale about the turbo tuners forgetting to hook-up their VTEC solenoid and they instantly got another 150 hp out of their car on the dyno. I just shake my head and tell them that it isn't magic. It's just bigger bumps on the stick.

But to stay on topic (sorry for ranting), Crower makes some nice sticks. Remember, power is made in the head. So cams are only half of it, the rest will be flow and port size/shape. Add more compression to this, and you'll have a beastly NA motor. Don't see why you couldn't be doing 13s all day with 11.5:1 or 12:1 compression.

Head is off right now as a port experiment failed (took the guides down too far and valves started to wobble which killed the seal in the cylinder = bad compression). So, while we are getting new guides and seats done, I am putting in a full crower head package with stage 2 cams. I also pulled the trans and am having Mista Bone (maybe some folks have heard of him) put a Richmond spool in it. Then come the stage 5 DSS axles and the South Bend Ferramic Clutch. The T3T04E will be pushing 20 psi in a stock body sol with street legal tires (must be street legal, I'll lie about the spool). The last step to blow the motor will be adding nitrous. Not sure how much, but enough to either go ridiculously fast or bust. Hopefully both.
Not trying to be insane, I just want to push the limits of this setup and see how fast it will go. Of course, all of this is backed up with a Hondata stage 4bd and tuned by Tom Payn (inventor of the Honda Dart block).

I am hoping to have the cylinder head done in two weeks. crower has to cut me some valves because my JDM B20 head has 33mm intake valves. They don't carry those in stock at Crower last time I called. Hopefully I will have some times in a month. I'm trying to have Zen patience with this. don't want to do anything wrong and negate all the hard work.

we do have several cam grinds available for the LS motor. I love that non-vtec motor, we have several grinds that vary from streetable set to wild lopey race type cams.
