I don have rims, but when I do I want to know how to properly maintain them. I have heard several things. 1) Simple Green (non toxic) and some people even apply wax? Is that good/bad? Thanks guys/gals
Simple Green is awesome to use. I use that for bugs on the bumper, just spray, let soak and scrup off with a scrubber sponge, but that's off topic
I have a sponge reserved only for the wheels and tires. The sponge has a rough top, that's for the tires, the sponge is for the wheels. Wax is optional, but a good idea. Just prepare for some akward squatting and leg cramps. And clean them often, but if you wash you car once a week like alot of people do, then that shouldn't be a problem. Brake dust builup is bad.
I always see people driving normal cars with alloy wheels and the front wheels are so covered with brake dust it looks like they painted them gunmetal. Do they not notice that?

I use simple green, let it soak in, take a sponge to it, let it dry, then apply a nice coat of wax. Look super shiney when done. I love my simple green cleaning method. Just hate washing my car when its cold out

however, no tool will work better than a tooth brush... good enough for plaque? good enough for brake dust and road grime.
i use a product called Eimann Fabrik Hi-Intensity Cleaner, this stuff works great. its like $20 for a gallon, but you can dilute it. after cleaning the rims, use a synthetic sealant like Klasse and Zaino. Once you have the sealant on, your rims will be much easier to clean.

Nothing touches my car but Meguiars products. Except for my little bottle of Tanabe polish that came with my exhaust. But when that runs out I'm getting Meguiars metal polish.
soap+water, wax.
Why use harmful chemicals when you can clean with elbow grease and soap, etc...

sounds nuts but believe it or not it does no damage to the rims or tires , Using Dawn dish soap . I have been using the stuff for the past year and half and my rims and tires are spotless ,just try to avoid letting your mom catch you swipping it HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Simple Green eats aluminum, you might have painted or coated rims but if the Simple Green will start eating the metal under the pain
"Nothing touches my car but Meguiars products" hahaha, Meguiars BLOWZ!
p21s is by far the best wheel cleaner.

easy off oven cleaner. hahahahah. i used it once to get off hawk brake pad dust that rusted. it didn't harm the finish. i left it on for an hour too. i wouldn't do it again but it got rid of the harsh brake dust stains. i am planning on repainting my wheels anyway.
soap and water. wash with the same type soap you use to wash your car. then, use a paint (about 2 1/2" wide) brush to get the dirt in the corners. if the dirt wont come out, then try using something stronger like simple green. rinse well after you're done washing. after it's dried, apply a coat of wax to the wheels. makes it harder for the dirt and brake dust to stick to the wheels.
