Default TACHOMETER PROBLEM

I have a 96 Accord LX -V6 (AUTO). It has 61,000 miles. I just recently drove it 1600 miles with no problems at all on a trip. A week later I noticed that my RPM Tach was going crazy (jumpming up and down) while I was driving or it will not move at all and it just sits at Zero while the car is moving. My bigger concern is that when the Tach seems to be malfunctioning, the car also seems to jerk periodicly but when the tach is working fine the car drives fine. The check engine light is not on. What could be the problem??????

way to give helpful information

Does the engine rev with the tach like does it bounce from 1K to 2.5K or just the tach?

If that is the case it might be your tachometer. Are you getting a CEL (check engine light)?

the engine does not rev with the tach. half the time the tach just sits at zero(while driving). the CEL did come on, but then i pulled the fuse to reset it and it has not came back on since(2-3 weeks), mind you all this time i have been having the same problem with the tach.

thanks in advance for any advice

Hmmm next time you get the CEL pull the code and see what it is

Usually that is a good indicator of what is wrong

Your coil is going bad. The tach gets it's signal from the coil, that's why it jumps.
But the telltale sympton is the fact that the engine jerks sometimes. This means that the coil is weak.

I 2nd the coil. It happened like you've explain to me and it was fix by replacing the coil. Coil problem is common among 5th gen v6 accord.

COil is located under the distrubutor. You'll need a 10mm wrench. SImply unplug the old and plug in the new coil.

If you drive with the old coil long enough, CEL will come on
