Default D15B Transmission Problem Help ASAP please :)

Alright, a friend of mine has a D15B engine in an EG hatch. The other day, he was driving on the highway and 5th gear went out. Like the engine will rev and all but no power to the wheels. So, he shifts to 4th gear and drives in that, then 4th gear goes out too. He then pulls over and gets the car towed.

Basicly, he can put the car in 4th or 5th gear, start the car from a stand still, and let off the clutch and leave it in 5th or 4th gear and the engine will not cut off or anything. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear are still normal for now and work.

The main questions are:
What might the problem be?

How bad is the problem?

About how much to fix it, parts and labor?

Here is a picture of the engine for those that are picture thread freaks

No grinding noise or anything? It just revs up as if in neutral?

does he have the LSD d15b tranny, or the normal one??

if its not the LSD one, then just go find a used z6 or y8 tranny somewhere, it'll be much cheaper than trying to fix it.

but if its the LSD one.. then yeah GL, i'm not sure exactly whats wrong, but that def worth fixing.
those trannys are rare and expensive(well as dseries trannys go at least).

Thanks Holloway for posting the question for your boy... while I was stranded.

Here's some pics of my adventure to NC.

Currently, I'm looking for a shop to install a trannie in Charlotte NC. If anybody knows one let me know.

Notice the vtec-e this was the "JDM D15" motor I got from hmo. At the time I was not as well versed in motors, but I did confront them on it, since I thought the head just said vtec, but as you know the blocks just say d15 and I was told it was the correct motor and that it was equivalent to the japanese version of a d16 and was like 130ps/127hp. I was never sent any type of reciept so I didn't even bother to fight it. Just chalked it up as being ignorant. I just know I would never recommend them to anyone due to dishonesty, but besides that the motor was in good shape.

Wow I never told this before, but I just felt the need to vent. Oh well.

Back to the topic at hand. I am looking for a shop to change my transmission in Charlotte NC and surrounding area.

I should right. I'm not on a road trip though. the hatch is downsouth and I'm in NY. I still need a shop in Charlotte NC that will do the tranny swap for relatively cheap.
