Default could setting fuel pressure too low via b&m fpr cause detonation?

May sound like a dumb question but I've set my b&m to the lowest setting and the car just bogs and runs like crap .. usually dies in the driveway unilt I increase pressure again..but I dont hear any detonation... I am not using a gauge either because I haven't been able to get a hold of one but people tell me I shouldnt adjust the fpr because if I lower the pressure too much it can be dangerous.. if that is true then why is it my motor hasn't detonated yet?

because there is no load on the engine to actually make it ping or detonate. But the temps are rising, just that you don't know. If you could take it for a spin you would hear the detonation.....not a good idea IMHO

BTW: is this the car you're having problem with?

So having low fuel pressure could never really cause anything dangerous to happen since there is no load on the motor if you can't even get out the driveway. Is this what you mean? Yes this is the car I'm having problems with but I think I have it narrowed down to the distributor.. just trying to think of other ideas incase my new dizzy doesn't fix the problem.

what i mean, is that IT WILL RUN HOTTER, but because there is no load it should just turn off since one or 2 detonations are enough to make it stall since there is no load, now, if you have some sort of forced applied to the engine (say going down a hill on a gear while the engine is breaking the car) then one detonation would lead to another one and soo on, and many detonations are what open a hole in your cylinders (at least on not super high performance engines, and that's another story).

bottom line, if its running lean it will start to heat up, and it SHOULD stall, and if not then there's chances you cook gaskets and stuff.
It's better to be on the rich side, altough not for long periods of time since being too rich gets the oil out of the cylinder walls the'll start to wear faster..
