Default ok i think my rings are bad...

ok so i talked to the first owner of my 95 gsr i bought of this kid that sold it for 1200....i guess he mis shiffed along time ago and now it burns oil, just in vtec. i did some research and ppl say its mostly the rings if its in vtec..so im going to get some new pistons, rings, valves, valve springs, and whatnot..i wanna go turbo so i might as well do it right the first time. what do you guys think the best rout is to build a nice engine to boost.

wow man, slow down and learn what you're dealing with here. have you done any compression or leakdown tests? does it blow blue smoke under WOT? how much oil are you burning? don't jump ahead of yourself and decide to get new pistons and turbo it, figure out what's wrong first.

if he miss shifted and all of a sudden it starts burning oil, t hen it wasn't the rings, it was the valvetrain, probably a bent valve or something.

just read and learn. do you even know how a turbo setup works? seems like you're a definite n00b that's been swayed too easily by other ricer's opinions, not to flame ya

I seriously doubt that valve is bent, but it is probably bad seals/guides.
As for building the right engine to boost. I would recommend to send it to have someone build it for you.

alright guys, ya im kinda of a noobe...well ppl say there is no blue smoke....and i did a compresion check, but it wasnt done with WOT...but the results were 180 across.. ill check it with WOT. if it was a bent valve, wouldnt i hear it and wouldnt it run like ****? and the turbo ? is cuz if i gotta replace ****, im planning on boosting this summer and want to do it right. oh and i think its about 1 quart on a full tank...

sounds like a valveguide and/or seal.

Valve seat or seal you mean?

Lots of race motors remove the valveguide all together to achive more area in the intake port.

do a leakdown test, it'll show for sure where you're leaking/burning oil.

have a shop do it. idk how much other shops charge, i paid 60 to have it done, ive heard some other people paying upwards of 100, but it'll show exactly where ur losing ur oil.

Leak down Test For sure.

I do them all the time. You need to find exactly where the leak is like the head or the Block. It could be lots of things like a Cracked piston, Bad rings, Baddly scored cyl. walls, Valve seals, bent valve, Head gasket, even clogged Pcv vlave causing lots of blowby.

Do a leak down test or get someone that knows what the Hell there are doing and find the problem before buying parts.
