Quick interpretation question of the rules. I believe the HC rules say the dashboard must remain intact.... does this mean I can gut all of the air/gauge/radio/glove compartment stuff, as long as the shell of the dash remains intact? How much has to remain? I want to install an aluminum panel where the passenger airbag used to be, and I don't know if its allowed or not. Thanks, bro's.
The Only part of the dash that we have in our EK is the dash itself and the guage cluster. meaing no glove box, no center console, no vents, no heater core, no cupholders, no airbags, etc... I think* you should be able to cover the passenger side airbag with aluminum plate...our center console is covered with a CF plate.
bucbaby- for HC, I dont think you can use a CF dash.

What he said.
Note that this is beyond what the SCCA allows for IT, so if you are building a dual-use car, be sure to read both the GCR and NASA CCR/HC rules.

Anyone got a GCR handy for the SCCA ruling on this one? I'm out of state, working on the car, and forgot mine at home.

Ha ha ha....that's my secret, to be unveiled at my debut race....(someday, sigh)
Actually, my brother-in-law is an ASE master certified automotive tech in Phoenix (which is why he's my head mechanic. He's got way cooler tools than I do.)

Heater Core must remain intact for SCCA IT classes.(I have no idea why..) Other then that you can modify the dash for the roll cage. You should be able to put that gauge panel in no problem.

My interpretation is that the OEM Dash cover/ shell call it what you will must remain in place. I t can be modified to allow for the roll cage bars. You can gut everything out of it and fill all the holes where the Gauges, A/C, Heater, switches, Vents etc were with alloy sheet or whatever you like. And you can replace all gauges, and switches if you want.
Thats what we've done???
I hope were not opening another can of worms here?

Don't have it here, but I know the heater/AC controls have to remain, heater core remains, wiring behind dash remains. Stereo can be yanked and dash can be cut to make room for cage, that's about it. You can install any gauges you want, in stereo hole or in front of stock gagues. Steering column combo seitches have to remain as well, AFAIK.

Yep... It might be made out of Plywood.
But it's still the Cheapest, easiest, and right now the most efective out there.
I've tried every type of composite, Carbon fiber, Aluminum, Unobtatianium, Fiberglass... You name it ! A splitter should be considered as a disposable item.
The thing that all of the above have in common... They fly to pieces when they hit an immovable object! I have found that Plywood coated with fiberglass cloth will last and will slide over most curbs etc. with slight splintering and scuffing and if it's good enough for F1 it's good enough for me. Sorry for Hijacking the thread.

We saved a whole 0.3668 lbs using CF, but now incur a 50 lb. weight penalty as a result.
