Where to find bolts for engine stand? 12 x 1.25mm, is this right?
Went to Lowes and to Home Depot in search of some bolts to put my z6 on my stand, but didn't find anything.
I've read that I need 12 x 1.25mm bolts. Is this true? The only thing Home Depot or Lowes has are 12 x 1.75mm. the only thing I can find in 1.25 is an 10 x 1.25mm.
I've measured my stand and I need some that are 3.5" long (don't know how many mm's that is off hand).
At any rate, does anybody know of a franchise store that has a good supply of hardware?

Were you looking for bolts ? If so go back to home depot and just buy the long bolt stud, you can cut it and then go buy some nuts for it.

I don't need any nuts because these will be screwing into my block.
They didn't have any bolts of any size in a 12 x 1.25mm...so long or short, I didn't have any options at Home Depot or Lowes.
I'm about to run up to Ace right now. Hopefully they can help me out.
Thanks for the responses guys

dont use a engine stand, it will make your threads weak from "standing on the stand", so leave it on a clean surface, and build from their!!! good luck

Well if you use the 2 bottoms holes, they go totally threw so you will need nuts.

Well I won't be building for a few months. I want something that rolls so I can move it out of the way when I pull a car into the garage.
I wanted one of those 4 wheel ones that sit kind of low. I've seen pictures of them on here. It looks like it holds the engine up from the bottom from what I can tell.
Anyway, I couldn't find those anywhere and I already have a side mount engine stand, so I figured i'd use it.

I just used the longest tranny bolts that I could find for the top holes and long bolts and nuts for the bottom 2 holes. Just remember to use washers too.
If you have a friend with a welder, just build up a rolling stand for the engine.
Here is a photo of the one I built up;

thats a good idea too, but not if you need to rotate the engine upside down

Ya what if your installing pistons or torqueing down the connecting rod caps?
Seems kinda hard, Id want one that could rotate around and I didnt have to sit on the floor to reach

You'd probably wanna flip the block over when torquing rod caps, girdle, oil pan, etc ... at least that's what I did.

That's awesome Wes. I've seen those before....I thought you could buy them, but I haven't seen any around. Maybe they're all homebuilt.
I won't be touching the engine for probably 6-7 months; this style would be much more convenient for me until it's time for the build. Then I'd like to go to the side mount style.

To all those that pointed out that you can't rotate the engine; the reason I posted the picture was that Jonathan was looking for something that could allow him to move the engine around. That's pretty much the same reason that I built it up as is.
I also have a normal engine stand that I use when doing engine assembly. However, it takes up a fair amount of "floor space".

That engine dolly is nice, but if your gonna be doing internals or an oil pan gasket you need an engine stand.

question for you guys. i just bought my engine stand and serached on here and found out that I needed 12x1.25. well they will not screw into my block for some reason. why is this? and what is the correct length for the top two bolts? I can not screw the bolts I bought in to see how deep they go. I bought the 12x1.25 3inch's long and I am only getting about 3 threads in. Why is this?
