I have a 96 del sol and I was wondering if you would not recommend an sir 1 swap over an sir 2 swap, does it matter which i get? i know sir 1 is more underpowered but i have no money for an sir 2 engine, will i run into alot of problems putting an older engine into a new car? it is obd 1 for sir 1 i believe, wouldnt that be better?

 

if you have an OBD1 car it is better to get an OBD1 Motor, otherwise it will be more hassle

 

You know, I think this topic has been covered once or twice before. Why not try doing a search you will yeild a lot more info then this (me) jackass will give.

 

also sir1 does not mean 0bd 1 at all.......I have a sir2 motor in my car and it is an obd1 motor. Obd2 is on 96 and up i believe.....or 97.

 

So i am good to run the sir 1 motor, what hassels will i run into?

SiR denotes the chasis on which the motor is in....

Motors come in generations. Like the B16a gen1 and gen2.

I think when you say sir1 you are refering to the gen1 of the motor. In this case, let's say B16a gen1 and gen2:

B16a gen1 in stock form has less HP and it is cable transmission (also known as obd0). In the other hand B16a gen2 has a higher HP and it is hydrolic transmission (obd1).

IF your car is OBD1, go with obd1 swaps...it makes it easier because you won't have to convert from obd0 to obd1, and vice.

B16a sir1 is obdo motor. Youll prolly want to go with the sir2 which is obd1 and use a jumper harness to use an obd1 computer.

Best advice so far.

 

go with the sir2 engine. we did a cable to hydro conversion, problems bleeding it, plus the clutch pedal was stiff as a dick on prom night. you will have less headaches with the sir2 swap.

 

Technically SiRs and SiRIIs have the same motors, being that it is a trim level and doesn't differentiate generations. To be more specific you need the correct OBD generation.

Sir1 is 88-91 I believe and
correct me if i'm wrong but the b16a vtec came out in 1988, if not it was available in 1989 then
Sir2 is 92- 95.
the sir1 or b16a gen 1 is obd-0
the sir2 or b16a second gen is obd-1 (us equivulent b16a3)

Scroll through these, SiR and SiRII (not to mention the unlisted special editions like the SiR-S, Jordon Civic and the CRX exclusive model) technically denote trim levels and options availible, sich as one piece wing on the EG, bronze tint, power this and that. It is commonly used to differentiate between generations, but still not accurate.

Thank you for the input, i think i will save a little and get the second generation motor, where can i buy a jumper harness? what is it used for ?
