d16y8 swap
i was wondering how hard is it to swap a d16y8 swap into a 88 crx dx???like are the engines point the same what mods are reqired to install the engine as far as wiring hardness and engine mounts and what axels and shift linkage would i use???
You can't use the Y8's tranny unless you are up for welding some custom mounts and trying to figure out how to make the hydrolic clutch work.
your stock tranny will bolt up to the engine just fine. You can also get hold of an 88~91 Si tranny and that will work as well. You keep your stock axles.
To get the engine elctrical to work you have a clouple options. You will need a new ECU no mater what, but you can either go with an OBD0 or a newer OBD1 ECU. I guess you could go with the proper OBD2 ECU, but that limits you on future ECU programs you might want because there isn't any support for it.
You will have to do the DPFI to MPFI change over regardless of what ECU you want to use.

You cannot use your stock ecu as it is configured to run a DPFI set-up. Use the search function on this site, look under "mini-me" or "sohc vtec" or "d16y8". Also search for "MPFI" or "DPFI to MPFI". Make sure you use the archives as well, there is ton's of info this topic.

P28 is the OBD-1 ECU that you'll want.
You will need to convert to OBD-1 spec if you go that route. You'll need to do the DPFI to MPFI as well as the OBD-1 conversion.
There are jumper harnesses out there like this
http://www.boomslang.us/obd0.htm
which will make the conversion a breeze.
