Does anyone know what this is? Is this a test pipe or a high flow cat? (w/pic)

looks like a cat that wont pass smog if your in a state that need it
other than that it is a wannabe cat that really is a strait pipe

yeah see thats the thing. If you were to look through it, it has these "filmed" type of things in there. Thats why i posted a pic of it pointed towards the light. I wouldnt know too sure if it was a test pipe cause there are some restrictions.

yeah that's what i was thinking too, at least the resonator on my exhaust looks exactly like that on the inside excpet it's a lot longer
if you look through a catalytic converter, you'll see layers of wierd mesh stuff,
real thin like, and you can kinda see through it ,but they do run across it.
unlike a muffler or resonator, that have mesh, ridges, or some sort of obstruction,
only along the walls.
which one is yours?
if its the first then its a cat..
doesnt mean its a good one... but its better than nothin..
personaly i'd rather not run a straight pipe,
the sound is really raspy

You can always replace the cat with a good resonator if you don't like the raspy sound, that is of course if you like going fast better than breathing.
its a rally cat , that is required in some competition. not street legal , and it wont pass smog (not recommend it at least).
if you plan on getting a cat , get a high flow cat that will meet smog requirements like an obdII or obdI highflow cat. If not you are rather off having a test pipe (for off road use only

yeah, a cat has filters or screens, while your pipe doesnt have that<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Tad »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">if you look through a catalytic converter, you'll see layers of wierd mesh stuff,

it kind of looks like a catalytic converter with the 3 bolt flange at one end and 2 at other end. by CivicSmkYa21
yeah the 3 bolt goes to the cat and the 2 bolt goes to the rest of the exhaust, on a cat the 3 bolt will obviously go to the resonator(or just the exhaust piping if there is no resonator) and the 2 bolt goes to your header.
it's a resonator
