I believe it is printed on the sticker on the driver's side door jam too.
Seems pretty shady that the VIN plate is missing. Look into it, though, I am sure you will. lol

I would collect all of your personal belongings out of it just in case it is a stolen car. The police will impund it and take everything with it.
Just to be safe.

check the top of the firewall, about the middle of the car. it should be easily visible (you may have to wipe away some grease to see it clearly). if you don't have that, or it's scratched out, there's no doubt you've probably got a stolen car.
either way, not having a vin plate is very, very bad and no one will make another one for you. has insurance seen your car yet? if they ever want to take pics, they are going to want pictures of the vin plate, and when it's not there (or they see it's been tampered with) they are going to freak out.
return that car

dash vin isnt that important, as long as u have the engine bay one which is the most permanent it seems like u should be fine, i'm running my car on the street with no dash, stopped at a couple stoplights next to cops, even went to the irvine police department to report my car being keyed, the cop took pictures with no dash and said nothing, ur fine, old dash could have been totally fucked up and this was a replacement....
There should be VIN stickers on all the original body parts (i.e. door, fender, bumpers, trunk) There should be at least one part of your car that is original.
Definitely go to the DMV

Did you ever get this resolved?
My vin plate got cut when modifying the dash to fit the rollcage. I am not planning on registering the car but in case I do I would like the VIN plate intact.
Just curious if you have any info for me

back from the dead.
the vin plate inside isnt as important as the others. if anyone needs a vin # they look inside the door anyways. its very easy to replace the inside vin # with another plate, but the replace the sticker is near impossible.

Well, I have seen a cop absolutely flip out on someone for having their VIN plate covered (not removed, just had some stuff over it). Of course this is PDX...home of one of the worst PD's in the country (ask the FBI haha).
I was also told the car would not be registerable w/o that plate on the dash (although I don't know that to be true or not).
Is this something I could theoretically get replaced at a dealer, or should I just forget about it and take my chances?

Well, I am thinking you would fail the VIN inspection which is required for registration? (Dunno if you guys have VIN inspections out there).

You deffinitaly want all your VIN #'s on the car to match. The dash, the firewall and the door jam. If they don't match or are missing, there's a good chance your car's been wrecked and put back together in some shady bodyshop. I work at an auto auction and see it pretty often. Just my 0.02
