17" wheels for Gsi
Hi guys i just bought a 96 model integra gsi, the closest i could get to a type R financially but it is a start. Must say i love the ride and after test driving skyline r32s must say this car had a much better feel to it. anyway my immediate plans for the car is to get bigger wheels for it. currently it has 14" wheels and im planning to upgrade it to 17".
I have two questions in regards to this, firstly will a 17" wheel sit in properly in the car the reason being i believe typr Rs come in 16" factory right and since i have the same shell it should be all right? I dont want the wheels to rub the body of the car as i have bigger plans for the future.
secondly, being in Australia, will it be legal to have those wheels in the car as it will be used daily?
Any feedback will be appreciated and also if anyone has typeR wheels they wana sell in NSW please let me know. Thanks fellas.

17s should fit no problem, provided you get the right size and offset and tires
17x7 maybe 7.5. offset should be anywhere between +35 and +42 respectively.
tire size 205/40 17 maybe a 215/40 or 215/35
but id advise against 17s. more expensive(wheels and tires), tires easily damaged, and i dont think they look any better than 15's/16's
thats what i think about the wheel/tire sizes

wow, i feel good now about having a integra.. lol. what was so different between the cars if u dont mind sharing?
and 17's would work, just watch the tire size, most 17's run 205-40-17 tires, only cuz im not sure if a 45 will fit.. i think it might, but then u cant lower ur car that much. im on 205-40-17's and i dont rub at all on full left and right turns, on a 2 inch drop. and im not sure if they'd be illegal to use daily drivin in ur country.. check around tho, if u see any other car's out there, i.e lexus is300, lexus rx 330, almost any suv's, benz's, or bmw's.. and if there rollin big wheels, i say its good to go.
but keep in mind, if ur goin for track times, 17's arent the way to go.. because it takes longer to accelerate, cuz u gota spin more rim, and less tire.. so 16's and 15's would be better, 15's the best.. and get you some falken tires.. and ur good to go

Hey mate,
Jump on http://www.ozhonda.com/forums for some advice and community closer to home.
There aren't many participating Aussie members on H-T, let alone from NSW. OzHonda is the Aust. Honda community.
Brief rundown:
17 x 7" rims running 205/40/17 profile tyres on your stock suspension will fit on your GSi no probs, with no handling/scrubbing issues. If and when you decide to lower her, then you might face some trouble.
My overall advice would be NOT to fit heavyass, useless 17"s, and instead stick to some lightweight 15" or 16" rims. I bought my DC4 with 17" ROH POS wheels, and when refitted with OEM Honda 15x6" VTiR rims ("phat fivez"), there was a considerable difference in performance.
Another thing- RTA Road regulations state that you may only modify your wheels to a 2" increase in rim diameter, and 1" increase in width. The stock GSi came with 14 x 5.5" steelies, meaning 17 x7" rims will leave you running illegally on the roads and render any insurance policy of yours null and void. Think about it.
Feel free to ask any more questions over at OzHonda!
Jon
P.S: DC2R (Type R) wheels came in a stock 15" size, and will NOT fit your GSi due to stud pattern. Our GSi's run a 4 x 100 stud lug pattern, whereas a Type R DC2R runs 5 x 100. ('96 JDM Spec is 4 stud, but 4 x 114.3, once again not matching up) Your best bet is something light and forged in 4x100. Eg. Volks, Buddyclub P1s etc

wow. i had no idea that larger wheels were illegal. anywhere.
i dont see the reasoning in making larger wheels illegal. i dont see them causing any direct safety concerns...

Ever driven a lifted truck w/massive tires? I sure can. Braking goes to HELL with larger rims/tires.

Thanks guys your feed backs definitely helped. havent decided on the actual wheels but will not go for 17s anymore. i thought the law was 0ne inch increase in rim diameter so that really helped jone. will check out ozhonda as well.
And in regards to the difference between r32 and gsi well the feel in the sense short shift gears, more racy feel when driving i.e. zippy and in a much better condition ofcourse. Regardless guys i will get a r32 down the line once i had enough of this baby and pass it on to my wife.
thanks again
