draining a car battery, how many times?
The battery on my econo box grocery getter has been drainined to zero twice now due to someone leaving the dome light on.
My question is, how manytimes can this be done? Should I just jump start the car and drive around the highway to have the alternator recharge the battery, and then continue with our weekly grocery runs? Or is two deep cycles enough to declare the battery garbage and go out and get a new batery?
We drive the car only once a week. When we do drive it, it is just around the neighborhood.

Back in High School Auto Shop (over 20 years ago), I specifically remember them saying that automotive batteries can only be deep cycled about 8 times. So you are good for 6 more!
And yes, drive for at least 7 minutes or so to gain enough charge for a restart (from when I drove a wrecker for AAA).

about 4 times in real life, especially if you go back to autozone have them charge it.
a properly charging time for a deep discharged battery for most passenger car is 22 hours. ASE stuff straight from my class book
the alernator aint gonna cut it, go pick up a battery charger yourselft, cost around 50 buck. you'll need it sooner or later, most people dont even realizing autozone kills battery by rapid charge.
