Default Buying 04 Civic EX Coupe

OK, so firstly what is a good exhaust system for this one? Secondly, what are some other worthwhile performance mods for this engine?

ok, well I'm not a serious tuner. I can't do an engine swap if that's what you're suggesting... Also thinking about getting the 04 Si...

Don't buy either with the intention to mod. Look for a used 99-00. For gas-thrifty commuter cars the 01+ Civics are great, but for modding and performance they are horseshit. Look for an older civic or get a new one and leave it alone.

the only thing those K motor in civics are good for are turbos and a head swap on an SI (I seen one EP3 with a greddy turbo on it and believe me that thing moves).

And yeah I would much rather buy an EK or EG then those new ones.

Why do you say that? Seems like the aftermarket should be able to adapt at least some of the performance parts for the D17 engine.

The new D17's are distributorless and are restrictive as hell. They don't advertise VTEC anymore they advertise ULEV.

I'm not trying to be obnoxious here, but so? The distributorless system is a plus IMHO, once someone cracks the ECU code its one more thing you can control. I mean, i understand there are difficulties, but heck, doesn't mean nothing will happen. It all depends on demand. 20 years ago there were a whole bunch of people who would have asked why you'd bother to try and make a Japanese econocar faster anyway.

i would take a 1.7 over a 1.6, but other older civics are WAY
funner to mod. Partly because they actually allow modifications
unlike the newer ones

best advice yet, all of these newer civics: 01+ are pathetic with their ULEV
