Hey ...done savin ready to buy my car. Just wanted to ask you guys around how much should I spend on what I want...and if this is safe. I def want a 5g civic w/ a b18c1 swap already done. I'm goin to hire someone to do a compression and leak down test to be safe. I want to spend from 4-5k no more. not lookin for alotta mods new seats....and wheels is about all(cosmetic stuff...dont want much engine mods..plan on doin myself). Do yall think this will be easy to find?

Don't buy someone else's nightmare. A mechanic doesn't know a tit from a butt cheek. It might look good externally but could be **** internally.

1992-1995 Honda Civic (hatch, coupe, sedan) - $2500
B16A, B18B, B18C - $2000 - $3500

Total - $4500-$6000 but a BUTTLOAD more knowledge than you already have now (if applicable )

6K plus?? Well then maybe I'll go a different way. I dont want someone elses nightmare thats why I'm havin a mechanic check it out. I would do the swap myself if I knew how...., but I think its cheaper buyin one already done.

i dont even have enough knowledge to get started on it man....seriously i would b lost....i would def have to hire someone.i can get a 94 si hatch w/ 160k miles for 1500 down the street from a guy who knows my dad. How much would it cost to get it swapped professionaly...like with the cost of the motor...4grand?

DIY!!!! Read up more on here and search around and print out all the stuff you need. Try checking out the link thread on the top of this forum. Once you get all your info...gather up your buddies and swap yourself. Much more satisfying.

Shops love to charge an arm and a leg for getting an engine and installing it too - and most of them don't even do a good job! I've heard of horror stories here in Miami, paying over 5g's for a swap, then having it not work, blah blah. I've seen jdm engines sitting outside of shops on paletes, like nothing - they don't give a ****.

It's better to trust yourself, unless you know someone who will for sure do it perfect, and charge you fair.

 

Honestly guys....it doesnt matter how much you read. If you have no expierence on this sort of **** then you wont be able to do it. I would never be able to get enough confidence from reading some articles about how to do a swap to invest 3 thousand dollars and not be able to finish it. Sorry...but thats really not an option for me.....unless I had someone to help me then I would read everything so I could at least know what I'm lookin at to help some...

 

Also to add to what I said ^^ my parents would not let me get into somethin like that....I do have friends that may be able to help me w/ it but my parents got a say in it too im sure u all kno what i mean

 

Noob here but building my B16A2 engine. My wife's cousin works in a engine rebuilding shop. Just need to keep up on reading the vast knowledge on these boards to make sure i build the block just right for any future set up. So far looks to be a B16A block with B16B pistons. Now i need to find the right rods and find someone selling the pistons. Guessing gonna need a 81.5mm. Back to the reading, good luck.........

 

1. Read a lot on this board.

2. Search, then ask away with whatever problems you have.

3. Buy a Helms manual.

4. Buy a Craftsman Mechanics Tool set.

5. If you bought the car and are buying the motor, who gives a flying **** what your parents say.

6. Grow some ***** and confidence.

 

I say DIY and show everyone including yourself up. I used to be scared to work on my car too....but after several mechanics who I trusted with my car fucked it up I only work on it myself if I can help it.

There was a thread on here recently about parents/swaps or something to that degree. I got a laugh out of it when someone told there parents that they went to a friends for the weekend to hang out and then just swapped the motor instead.

The way I look at it now is, any competent mechanic charges about $75/hr +. Now that adds up quick. All the money spent in labor could be spent on more parts. Good luck but just remeber ...... HT search function will 90% of the time help you out, or PM someone. Things aren't as hard as they seem.

 

Put it this way. It's going to cost you at least $400 to $800 to get a motor swapped in. Especially when it comes to electronics and wiring schematics for harnesses. Not that many mechanics out there know how to do this, so, you'll be ending up at a Honda-based mechanics place paying him and arm and a leg to do something that you can do with all the fuggin threads we have on here. We have DETAILED threads on swaps on this forum plus MANY people willing to help you out with whatever you encounter. So, save that $600 (round it off) for beer and pizza, call a few know-how friends or someone in your area (here in H-T) willing to lend you a hand for a small fee.

 

Man if someone in here lives in Georgia would help me I would pay them 300bucks cash....dunno if its worth anyones time...lol. Also if I did the swap myself it would have to be B16A because no way in hell I will have enough cash to do B18C. I would do it if I had someone helpin that has already done one themselves

 

I am not sure if he could go help you but B18C5-EH (Tom) is a mod here. PM him, he is very helpful to me when I have a question or problem. Give it a shot and search HT.

 

This site is great since there are so many ppl on at the same time, your questions can be answered quickly. Just may have to bump them a few times. LoL 8P

Not hard at all. My engine is stock, (Intake, Headers) and there are very few mods on the car at all.
