Default need help with distributor cap replacement

i just purchased a distubutor cap and cant figure out what to do with the ignition coil. i tried trasfering the plug wires one at a time but i dont know what to do with the ignition coil. also i was wondering if this could be the cause of my tach not working. all my gages work find except the tach. the RPMs jump all over the place and half the time its just not working. please let me know what you think. thanks

Sounds like your ignitor is going bad.

What are you saying about the cap?
I don't understand what it has to do with the coil.

If the ignitor tests out OK then you probably have a dying distributor and you need a new one.

Got some news for ya. Your ignitor is about to die or is already dead. The symptoms you have wrote point directly towards it. Get a new ignitor. They are not cheap tho. Its really easy to replace. If you need any help PM me.

a cap is easy, unscrew the little screws holding it on, pop it off, get a new seal, pop it and the new cap back on and screw it back down.
