Hey guys, a few days ago my short shifter in my 1999 Civic Si started to get really warm and now its like hot when i drive for only like 10 minutes, I'm not sure what to check can you help me out?
When u did your short shifter, did u happen to remove your heatshield from under the car??? The heat is comming from the exhaust. At least thats what happend when i put one on a teg. ****** burns pretty bad
How close is it to your exhaust pipes? Also has this been happening alot or just started like today and you had the shifter for a year? Could just be the heat traveling through the metal.
well since the bottom of a short shifter is longer than an OEM one, it will be closer to the exhaust/cat area. It may even be rubbing the exhaust pipes, which is heating it up. You can either bend your hangers on your exhaust to drop it a bit, or you can live with it.
I remember when I had my Skunk2 dual-bend shifter in my Sol, it wasn't really the shift lever itself getting hot, it was the f*ckin' Skunk2 shift ****! I swore that one of these days my hand was gonna have the shift pattern branded onto it eventually.
Just make sure your heatshield is on because i almost forgot about it too. Mine used to be pretty close to my exhaust but once i got my evo2 on my si its not even close to it anymore. Hope this helps
