hard to downshift into 2nd
i can downshift into any gears but it barely goes into 2nd gear unless i pull down on the shifter HARD. anyone know what the problem is? could the tranny be messed up? it's a b16 tranny. shifts from 1-5 is smooth with no grinds.

You didn't change your fluid recently did you? Maybe the fluid is getting low. Many cars wear out the 2nd gear synchro's 1st. They have the most trouble working when you are shifting down. If that's the problem you might try changing the fluid and the fluid to use is GM Synchromesh FM. Just do a search using those words and you will find plenty of testimonials to it's goodness. I switched a couple months back and it really shifts nice.

yeah try double clutching (i.e. push in clutch, shift out of 3rd into neutral, clutch out, blip throttle, clutch in, shift into 2nd). It's most likely your 2nd gear syncro. Do you have a short shifter on there?

I have the same problem going into second gear on the upshift if I am bumping off of the rev limiter. My d16 synchros are just too small for the power of a boosted D.... The downshift is fine though....
Sorry don't mean to thread jack... And yes I just did a clutch and flywheel and replaced the tranny fluid with oem fluid. Maybe I should try this synchromesh...

it could be a number of things. shifter linkage bushings, tranny mount, unadjusted cluthch pedal height, bad master cylinder, bad syncro, wrong gear oil, blah blah.
park you car. rev your engine to like 3k with the clutch out, then clutch and shift to 2nd ...does it go in easily?
then cruise at 45mph, pull you gear to neutral and let the clutch out, then clutch in and put the gear into 2nd, how much heavier is that from the first check?
