Default New kid on the block

Just joined the forum, I picked up a '93 Del Sol SI (1.6 VTEC) a few weeks ago.

I prefer to keep the same username, and since I also own two Z28 Camaro's I'm going with that username. Aside from all the Import vs. Domestic jokes, I picked up the Del Sol because I wanted something fun and that got halfway decent gas mileage. My one Camaro will run 12's, but as a daily driver....well....$15 a day to get to and from work just plain sucks.

This will be my 20th vehicle, however my first Honda, so I have a lot to learn and look forward to lots of great advice, and even some crappy advice :-)

The car I bought was pretty neglected, so I already have done quite a bit to it:
- New Front Wheel Bearings
- New Tires all around (Falken ZIEX 512's I think)
- Raybestos Ceramic pads up front and el'cheapo's on the back. New rotors on the front. I'm not a believer in drilled rotors, so they are "normal"
- I rebuilt all of the brake calipers (They had a nasty taper on the pads -- is this normal with Del Sol's?)
- New Tie Rods
- New Ball Joints
- New Spark plugs (NGK 5J11's if I remember correctly)
- New spark plug wires (7mm - nothing fancy)
- APC Strut tower bar (Yeah I know...But I got it last weekend at their warehouse sale for $15 new)
- APC Short Shifter (yeah...yeah...Same deal, I got it for $5). To me it still needed improvement, so I cut off 3" and tapped it. I then cut down the shifter handle. I then gasped when I saw all the rubber connecting my fist to the tranny, so I fabricated the control rod mount out of solid aluminum, and I replaced the large rubber grommet near the tranny with some bearings, and now shifts are very crisp)
- New Battery
- Oversized Pure-One oil filter
- Replaced the horrable stock head unit with a Pioneer DEH4600MP
- Replaced the front speakers with Apline S170A's
- No back speakers? (Is this normal...I have a grill in the back?)
- I run 10w-30 oil in the engine (Castroil GTX)
- I replaced the tranny fluid with the same 10w-30 Castroil GTX
- I flushed the brake fluid and use Valvoline Synthetic DOT4
- I flushed the clutch fluid as well, used the same stuff
- I flushed the power steering with "Honda Approved" power steering fluid

That's about it for now. So.......Tell me what I did wrong? :-)

Also Anything particular these cars do that I should know about? My top leaks a little when I wash it, and the chassis squeaks alot, but I expect it for a convertible...

Also, Anybody know how to take the front bumper off? I just picked up some euro (black) corner lenses for it.

Oh one more question...Has anybody made a decent CAI for these cars using PVC? I want to build one that puts a cone style filter in the bumper area (draw cool air instead of hot air from the engine bay)

I did a search on a lot of this stuff but I didn't find too much. Sorry if this post is deemed too long...I have been using car forums for a few years now and everybody has their own ideas of what is too long...

yea, expect the water leaking targa top. replace them with 95' seals, and it won't leak at all, or as much.
expect the squeaking, like you said, its a targa top.

to replace the corner lights, you dont have to take off the bumper (at least i dont remember doing so).
i think its just a couple bolts.

CAI's... got quite a selection...
AEM, Comptech, Injen, eBay , etc...
just look around. you'll find them.

i think i'm just favoring you because you have a sol

just remember to READ and RESPECT the forum Rules.

enjoy your stay.

Damn man, don't you have anything better to do than always post links in other people's threads?? This all I over see you post, or useless comments. We don't need a EG+ Forum Helper...

if my posts are so useless, then why are they so helpful???

hm if this forum didn't need a helper, then why did they need two more Moderators?

and i was chosen that title from the Moderators.

if this forum didn't need help, then why is it that i still see people posting w/o searching?

Because every single forum has people that post without searching, do you think your going to get rid of the problem by repeatedly posting the same links?

I don't find your posts with the same links very useful, but don't take it so seriously man. This is the internet, not everyone will ever agree on anything.

The real question is, does JL have them saved on Notepad or does he type it up everytime he sees a crappy thread i wonder?

when I first got my civic I used castrol gtx 5w30 and used that for quite awhile, with the pure one filter, switched to mobil 1 with same pure one filter and been using that for 50,000+ miles. My car has 143,000 miles now and it does not use, burn, or leak anything. The type of oil you use is just prefrence. Both Mobil and Castrol make excellent oil's. Just make sure you do frequent oil changes, for the most part all I've had to mine is fill up the tank about every 2 weeks and change the oil every couple months or so. You take care of that engine and it'll take care of you. BTW welcome to h-t

yes, but the people haven't read them, do. of course you won't find them useful if you read them already.

maybe it will get rid of the problem, but by me doing this, reduces the problem.

Wow wow wow. How is he wasting his time? His doing this guy a big favor. because if he didnt post all the links for him he would only get "try searching next time" or "search is your friend", etc. And you know thats true.

Also if someone does search for this thread (i dont know why someone would be searching for "new kids on the block though") they would see all the links right here.

yes i know its the Moderators job, but why do they have this as one of their rules...
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">14. If the post is reported to a moderator, and you post in the thread you must give a reason.

If you report it as a “repost”, at least direct them down the right path. From now on "search *******" or anything of this sort without posting a link will get points docked immediately.[quote]

hahah, yeah seriously man. Nobody cares about your posts with the links. They really are just annoying as anyone being an ******* on here or just uttering a completely useless "Just Search" and what not.

Bored or not, obviously people I don't even talk to agree with me. I'm not alone apparently... have fun at your party.

Maybe when I get back home on the 15th I'll post a picture thread in this forum just for you.

Is it any better for you to "Quote" his post so now there's multiple copies of it?

Is it any better for you two to take up the whole ******* post with petty arguing?

I think not. Way to welcome this guy and completely over run his post. Way to make a good first impression about the board.

To the original poster, welcome and hopefully you didn't receive a bad first impression and most of the people here really aren't winy little bitches. There actually is quite a bit of factual info to be found.
