Oil consumption
I have a jdm type r engine and its using about 1/2-3/4 of a litre every 1500km's or so of normal easy driving.
the car doesn't ever blow blue smoke but a lot of black smoke when revving up to high rpms (burning really rich).
My brother thinks its b/c it has an insanely high compression ratio (~12.4) and possibly b/c it has forged pistons. Forged pistons shrink slightly when cold so that might be why its not quite sealing as tight as compared to when the engine is hot.
I've read on a local forum in my area that it could also be a pvc canister (sits by the oil filter) that is plugged up. Is there a way I can check to see if this thing is clogged?
Thanks

I have heard about the pvc cannister being a possible issue. I am burning alot of oil also and I was wondering if that could be where it is comming from. Any info would be of great interest.

Hmmm.
OK, first off, that's not an unusual amount of oil consumption for an ITR motor.
A lot can depend on how you drive it, and what kind and what weight of oil you're using.
As far as the smoke goes, you say there doesn't seem to be oil in it, but you see it when you come on the cam.
That would seem to indicate a safety factor kicking in, that is to say, that the car's running rich at high RPM so you don't get in trouble and burn something up.
What computer are you using, and who tuned your car after the changes you made?
My own car has this "rich smoke" at high RPM and although the mechanic hasn't volunteered the information, I know he kept me rich at high RPM to keep me from blowing anything up after having the car down for rebuild for six months.
I know I'm missing four or five HP, but I appreciate that he's made sure we won't blow the motor right away.

im havin the same problem with my 00 b18c-r and cant figure out whats wrong either...i checked my oil level and after only 1500 mi im right above the bottom line
I've been having similar issues with my 01 USDM motor. Switched from 5/30 mobil 1 to 15/50 mobil 1 for the summer, and it seems to have subsided. Added bonus is slightly higher oil pressures, and better high temp protection...

it interesting to see that the type r consumes that much oil!
I drive normal with shifts at around 4k rpm and the odd time I hit v-tec to about 6k.
I'm a very tame driver (such a waste of a good engine I think...
) and I rarely bag my car. It seems to consume more on really hot months than it does on cold ones.
The ECU i'm using is a JDM Type R and VAFC.
The VAFC is basically use for vtec engagement changeover. The fuel settings and such are set to stock.
Can anyone here tell me why with my engine that when I turn the a/c on when running the rpm drops really really really low to the point of stalling? Even after I shut the a/c off the engine runs like its misfiring or something.
it happens the most when the days are above 23 C

why did u get an R if u never drive it the way its made to be driven?

You should probably sell that thing if that's all you're using it for.
My '00 JDM ITR engine never burned any excessive oil. I PERSONALLY think this was because of its break in process. I have a feeling the person who owned it before me broke it in hard instead of easy.. which I think is better than breaking it in easy.
I always took it up to redline, never saw any smoke from my exhaust. The most I ever burned was a quarter of a quart in 3k miles running 10w30 mobil 1 supersyn.
And ya, gas prices suck!!
