Default AVID B series shift linkage? Cause of my "Mushy" shift feel?

Or is this just how the B series swaps are?

My shift feel feels extreemly mushy (compared to my old stock linkages with my ZC, and the stock D15).

The shifter also has to reach very far forward (touches the plastic center consol) for 1st 3rd and Reverse.

I am using a stock shifter, with AVID linkages, and Billet Hasport mounts.

<---very pissed.

Already did. I had a B/M short shifter I put it in, and it was horrible. The thing would be in gear within 1" of motion...It had torn gears written all over it.

I would have to say the AVID / HASPORT comdo might be the reason it hits the consule in the upper gears --- * maybe the the linkage only works witht he mounts * we sale the AVID line and havent had any problems YET. The post about cutting stock b series is good idea to if you have the tools. That way you can doudle check the lenght. Good Luck

hey bryson i have the exact setup as you also and I have the same problem. It looks like the AVID linkage is too short, b\c with the hasports the engine prolly sits farther forward vs. the avid mounts.

With the mushy feel you were talking about, in my set up where the stabilizer rod slides into the bushing(held up by 2 bolts) you notice the avid rod does not have a flared end like the original d series linkages do. My stabilizer rod would actually slip out of the bushing and cause the mushy shift feel and the inch of travel like you mention.

What i would do is either (cheaper thing to do anyway) is get the linkages extended a bit so that it lines up properly w/the console and doesnt hit in 1,3,and 5th gear. Also have like two little tabs welded onto the end of the stabilizer rod to prevent the rod from sliding out the bushing, that should fix it.

Or get the hasport linkage!

if the shifter is sitting far forward, his problem lies in the linkage being too LONG not too short.

It probably has to do with mixing the hasport mounts with the avid linkage. I have all avid mounts and linkage in my car and it works great

Just sell your avid linkage and get hasport linkage to match your mounts.

John a.k.a ComposiMo had a solution to this, it turns out its the little pivot point at the end, he replaced the joint with a u joint I think. It fixed the problem.
