What kind of damage could excessive oil cause?
My R had problems starting up yesterday. It would crank, but I couldn't get it to start for a while. I checked the oil level and it was about 1 quart high. Now I was wondering if this is what caused my car not to start? And what kind of damage could excessive oil result in? Thanks.

Sometimes I do. Last time I didn't.

So do you think this caused my car to act this way?

i did the same thing when i changed my oil last filling it up a quart or so too much and heard the same thing about burning rings and such...i just backed up the drain plug a few threads until it was leaking a small amount and i used an empty quart to judge the amount i was draining... worked perfect...

I had pulled the D15B out of my Hybrid the year before then recently dropped it into my new winter beater that had no motor. I assumed my friend drained the motor oil, but, he never did, so when we installed it, I dumped in the recommended amount of motor oil. When we fired the engine up there were no problems but it was prrrrrrrrrretty slow. Mind you, it didnt feel too off since it was a 75 hp CX motor, but after a day of it blowing some smoke and it feeling really wheeeeezy, I thought of the problem, checked it and drained out all of the gllons of oil, holy smokes was there a lot of oil in that little 1.5 liter D series motor!

The oil level is about a half-inch above the second dot on the stick. I assumed it's about a quart. I haven't driven my car since that incident. I was just going to get an oil change on Monday. So how much driving would it take before it causes any serious damage? I must of drove like that for about a week. I'm trying to figure out if my oil level caused my car not to start or if it's something else causing it.

I knew a guy in college who put too much oil in his car, and it blew his headgasket, which basically destroyed the entire motor.
