steering rack adjustment?
I have a lot of play in my rack. Clunking noises, when I hit bumps, and play side to side when it's up on the hoist. I can hear the clunking noise coming from the rack itself, when the car is in the air and i wiggle the wheel. It's coming from inside the rack. My Q is, is there any adjument bolts or nuts that I can use to tighten up the steering. I tried searching and only found rack removal tips.
Thanks in advance...

On that link is the bottom drawing of relevance to the rest or is it the next topic in whatever book that is? I dont remember seeing any 40mm nuts under there, tho i know some racks (not nessesatily hondas) can be adjusted. That link seems to me to only demonstrate a way to adjust the friction in the rack. Im hoping and praying that the freeplay is ajustable but i think it might be just one of those too good to be true things. Can anyone else with any quality knoledge of these racks verify this please? I'm gonna try this tomorrow. I will let you guys know how it went. I got a parts car for 50 bucks, so at least I can just swap the rack if it doesn't work. Do you guys know if a 91 si rack will fit a 89 si.

The nut is below the pinion rod, on the bottom side of the rack. It's directly below where the steering knuckle attaches to the rack. But I agree with you. It only adjusts friction on the rack. It won't do anything for free play. CRX /EF racks are not adjustable for free play. If you have that much play in the rack, time for a new one. Sorry, but that's the only solution. Ask me how Iknow this.
But you can try it, and see, let me know if it hepls, any.

i would first replace the steering rack bushing first. its a small plastic thingy on the passenger side. gotta take off the inner tie rod first. but you can test it by putting the steering to full lock and jiggling it, actually pushing it really hard. it shouldnt move.
but then again, if your steering rack boots were torn and the steering rack was all chewed up, i dont think any amount of adjustment can save it, just needs replacing.

Ya it didn't work out. Help a bit I think, but hard to notice. I just pulled the rack out of the parts car and I'm gonna replace mine
