Default 2000 si, Check Engine Light is on

I have a 2000 Si with 170,000 miles.

My CEL came on this morning. I tried searching but had no luck.

What I need to know is how to determine the error code.

I think I heard the general idea is to pull the little ecu harness and jump it with a paper clip, then turn the key and count the CEL flashes or something like that...i just do not know the EXACT step-by-step procedure.

Any help is appreciated. Then I will come back and post what the code is and go from there.

Thanks!

Go to pepboys, or a place like that. They'll hook it up to an OBDII code reader and tell you exactly what the problem is.

Ok so I got home and jumped the thingy - code 1, o2 sensor.

I had issues with this a few weeks back when I posted about failing smog.

I tried the bosch universal o2 and I could not for the life of me get that thing to work without getting a CEL. So I crimped back the OEM sensor and OEM harness, taped it up, put on a new cap and rotor and passed smog.

It's been fine for a few weeks but this morning it just took a dump on me. The strange thing is, VTEC still engages. I know because a) 170,000 miles, I know my car by now and b) I tapped an LED to the vtec wire so it turns on when engaged (yeah it's might be rice, but that's the only grain in my car).

Should VTEC not engage when the CEL is on? I thought it wasn't supposed to.

Anyway...I'm gonna check my crimps and if that don't help I'll order a new one from honda...ouch!

so my car was broken into last night.

they wanted the car. they pryed down the window and hotwired it. thank God the steering column was locked. they took a hammer to the interior. they didn't touch anything else. the plastic covers to the ecu and the underside of the steering wheel are gone. there is a lot of broken plastic connectors and other things. a neighbor scared them away at 4am. i found the car still idling at 9am, on an empty tank no less. they left a screwdriver which the cops took as evidence.

aint that a bitch. i ******* dare them to come back.

300000 % 4 % 365 = 205 miles per day

Thats a lot of miles to be driving everyday. Say you do drive that many miles everyday. Don't you have to go to work?, Do you do anything but drive?
