the Random Grip is a POS. it'll work for a few months then crap out.
save money and time and get yourself a bulletproof quaife, unless you're good at and like tearing apart trannies.

there was a big thread on the phantom grip, it is apparently gone now, but it basically said that if u get the right spring with it, and have it installed correctly, it is fine, and if i recall correctly there were people claiming to have used them on 450+ whp drag cars with no problem, but i couldnt find the thread soo......

the right spring = custom modifications to an already crappy unit. sounds like a band-aid fix to me.
i have never met a Phantom grip owner who has had the unit for more than a year who recommends the product. the typical story is: it worked ok at first, and it stopped after X amount of time. i'm not sure how much longer a stiffer spring will last in the unit, and if the extra force exerted by the stiffer spring is good for your spider gears.
at any rate the PG is a big question mark, good springs or not. With quaifes only costing a few hundred more, and a rock solid reputation as the best gear-type LSD on the market, i don't see the point in installing the PG into a tranny (which is a total pain in the ***) if it won't work forever. Especially since tranny work is expensive for those who cannot DIY.

so u have no expierience with one, but u called it a POS, interesting
thats exactly what happened on that old thread, the first few posts were people saying what pieces of **** they HEARD they were, then a bunch of people started posting that they had no problems with it, the said to call the lady at phantom grip, and tell her what your specific application is
i dont have expierience with one either, but thats just the info i got for them, and thats what this guy is asking

i don't have direct experience with one, but when 9 out of 10 users tell me that it's failed within a year, i don't think i need direct experience with one to know that it's a piece. Also, when i reflect upon the design of the unit, and start thinking about the potential ramifications of design (flaws) it doesn't take a genius to imagine that it's designed pretty poorly. heap on top of that fact that it's probably made poorly and you've got a winner.
i've got a quaife. it works. seamlessly. no complaints and not all that expensive either, as far as LSD's go. the only other alternative i'd consider is a cusco or a kaaz.

yep. the phantom grip just looks like two pieces of metal put together opposed to a torsen lsd or a clutch type lsd.
