Is it ok to continuesly adjust my cam gear?

I have a sohc with a skunk2 cam gear...and i was wondering if its okay to continuesly adjust my cam gear...by going 2 degrees advance and 2 degrees retard, back to whatever i feel comfortable with. Is there a "right" procedure into adjusting the cam gear? Or can i just adjust it back and forth for whatever i please?
Timing belt turns cam gear, which turns cam, which turns dizzy. Make sure you are checking your ignition timing at idle when adjusting your gear.

It would be the same on DOHC intake cam. It's not a big deal. Just make sure when you change your setting to adjust your dizzy. Hell, maybe even make marks on your bracket so you know where to twist it to. Use the light once, make all your marks, then never have to do it again. It just means you need to bring a 12mm along instead of just an 8mm (or whatever the bolts on your gear are). It's not a big deal, just an often missed detail. Other than that, there should be no worries. It's just hard to tell what changes you make if you retard the cam timing and it also drops your ignition timing.

blah i see. my question is...will the timing be correct? even if i adjust the cam a lot....to whatever degree i want? will it be the timing be correct, on what the cam gear tells me?
I'm not sure what you're asking at this point. The cam sprocket is used to adjust cam timing. The distributor is used to adjust base ignition timing. These are two seperate things. The cam timing will be exactly what the marks on the sprocket tell you it is. The ignition timing is determined using the marks on the crank pulley and a timing light.

just what i was thinking but i have heard of cam gears getting adjusted to much and the allen bolt that adjust them break then causing the engine to rotate the bottom end and not the cam shaft, causing instant engine damage just my thoughts
It would be better to take the car to get the cam tuned and then leave it alone. There is really no way to tell if you are making power by adjusting the gear back and forth and relying on the butt dyno.
