transmission swap: can i swap without removing the motor?
I've done a few swap, but they have all included both motor and tranny. Now I just blew my tranny out and want to replace it. I dont see the tranny coming out the top side, but maybe pull off the rear motor mount and the tranny motor mounts. Then pull the tranny from the bottom.
Anyone have any expierence trying this? or is this just one of those 4:00 am ideas that should go away?

Yes you can drop it out underneath the car.....I'm not even sure you can pull the tranny alone from the top, that'd be hella hard IMO. You will need to support the engine as 3 of the mounts are on the tranny and will obviously have to come off.
dont support the engine at first and let it hang sideways, this will help you pull the tranny off. actually, when i think of it, you dont need to support the engine at all...til you are ready to put the new tranny in.
I think it'll be a good idea to support the engine after removing the tranny since it'll be just hanging on to only the one driver's side mount especially if you're planning to reinstall everything at a later time. You can use a piece of 4x4 over the jack so you won't mess up the bottom of the engine. Good Luck
