Default best frankenstein setup?????????

ive heard so much about the B20 block and its torque ratings.

my question is what head is best to go with this?
the 18b,18c or 16?

ive heard that from where im wanting my car to go not to concern myself with a vtec head, but if youre not gonna feel the vtec does it matter if tis there?

any body do these B20 setups,if so ensight would be greatly appreciated

Why the hell would you put a B18B (LS) head on a B20, they basically have the same head.

I think the CTR head is the best head to match up because its alittle more P&P then the ITR (atleast thats what i think i heard, could have it backwards)

On a B series you feel VTEC and it matters if its there or not on the head. If you get a VTEC head and not have VTEC active, it would run like ****. If your not going to run VTEC then just P&P and build the B20 head and youll be set.

I've seen 2 of my friends' frankenstein motors blow up. One finally works ok with a type r head, but even that there's no telling how long it'll last.

The CTR head is exactly the same as the ITR head, the ports are the same, but cams are very slightly different..Ive had a vtec head and not run vtec...its called toda vtec killer or ferrea roller.

Your friends need to find someone to do the job correctly. No reason a hybrid should be unreliable. I drag and Scca my B20Vtec often and have ran the swap for three years with no problems. Just find yourself a clean B16 or Gsr head and enjoy your tourque monster with plenty of top end. Dyno sheet posted in this section for reference.

Either your friends abuse the **** out of their cars, or they are having the wrong people build their motors.

b20 vtec can be reliable if built and tuned properly, whoever had there's blown you must have been running some unknown basemap. Been seeing that alot lately, no proper tune, just a chipped ecu with a map on there.

edit: I just googled b20 head on b16 block and found something similar where they swapped an LS head onto a vtec block. Worked fine, you just need to block the oil passage in reverse. HP was .....meeeah...but it works.

There is no best one set-up...it depends on what kind of HP your goal is and intended use.
That said, check out 'How to build a reliable lsvtec,' and that should get you started. As always, make sure the builder knows what they are doing (by past successful, reliable engines) and get a good tune.
