Default 2000 honda civic ex manual and 2001 honda civic ex auto

Im fairly new to honda engines. I have been doing a lot of reading and trying to gather as much info as possible on engine swaps. I own a 2000 ex civic stick and i am interested in getting under the hood and modifying the engine. I was interested at first in dropping a h22a or k20 or k24 engine but im out in cali and i need my a/c. I was wondering what i would be able to do to my stock engine to get the hp to about 225-250hp without turbo and without doing an engine swap, if its possible.

My girl also has a 2001 honda civic ex but its a auto . I was curious if we would be able to drop a 2001 H22a engine into the civic and if it would be able to keep the power steering and a/c. Im trying to get her civic up to about 200hp b4 she puts the turbo on it. Is it possible to modify the engine to get it up to 200hp without an engine swap and without dropping an excessive amount of money??? If you all have any info or ideas just let me know....you can drop me an email at babyjordan_ptp@yahoo.com

holla

225-250whp on a naturally aspirated d16y8 (EX motor) is nearly impossible.

Nope...don't even think about it...the stock single cam engines take a lot of work to make over 200 hp with a turbo or supercharger.

You would need a fully built engine, about 18:1 compression ratio and have to run 125 octane race gas, and use a camshaft that wont be able to idle for crap.

Oh yeah, and you'll spend a hell of a lot more to make the D16 make over 200 hp without a turbo than putting on a turbo.

The 2001, just forget about it....Honda screwed up the civic starting with that year, I wouldn't spend a dime upgrading that engine.

Just get either a Edelbrock or Greddy turbo kit, turn up the boost to 10-11 psi and be done with it!

okay. thanks for the info. like i said im completely new to honda engines i have only had my car for about 6 months. do you have any suggestions on what i should do to the engine short of doing an engine swap. My total desired hp is about 275-300hp with turbo....but im not sure if that will be possible without doing an engine swap. if i was going to do an engine swap can you recommend a place where i will be able to get a good engine from and at a good price????

thanks for the info on the 01 civic. for the 00 civic what type of engine should i put in it. I heard that the b18s with a b16a head more than likely will not pass the smog test in cali. you got any ideas of what i should do??

I personally think that you'll have much more fun, and spend the money more wisely going turbo. Even a basic 7 psi turbo kit will be faster than a B18 swap.

The D16 in the 00 civic can handle 10-11 psi of boost on a daily basis and can make about 220whp. Upgrading the rods/pistons can handle about 15 psi of boost and with a cam make 260whp+

thanks a lot for the info. i was thinking of doing the obvious of course like upgrading the headers, cams, fuel lines, intake, exhaust and etc... but more specifically you got any details on what exactly i should do? sorry if im bugging you im just trying to make a wise decision. im thinking about dropping $4-5k into just my engine... im probably going to look around for b16 engines at junkyards and salvage yards

It seems like you need to do some research. Just buy some bolt ons for right now. ie.(header intake exhaust) after that you will be ready to move on to more power.

If you're seriously considering going turbo, then do not bother to buy N/A bolt-on parts.

Look into the GReddy or APex-i turbo kits for a starting point.

So your asking for help and say thanks to Marauder but never actually listen.

Here is the deal.
Purchase the Edelbrock turbo kit for your 2000 EX and purchase a Cat-back system of your choice.

There you have more whp than a Integra GSR engine.

It is as simple as that. OH and your California smog legal.
