Default B18B timing advance question

Tried to search but got like 5 results that didn't help at all. I've got a B18B in my hatchback and I'm wondering how much timing advance I can run and make a little more power. I don't have access to a dyno right now, otherwise I'd just get on and do it. I've just got an intake, header, and 2-1/4 exhaust. Maybe this is a stupid question, but would race gas and more timing help out at all? I'm new to the all motor thing, I'm a turbo guy so I know what's good for my DSM, but not for the n/a motor. Thanks.

well the most power i got was at 16 btdc, well for the race gas, u dont really need it because the compression ratio of the ls is so low, 92 octance will do just fine, unless u like ur exhaust to smell really good

Go 2-3 degrees advanced from stock, common practice.

Racegas isn't good for an engine that isn't meant for it... atomises poorly and burns so slowly you'd throw still burning AF out your exhaust valves, effectively running you lean and overheating the combustion chamber, leading into your engine shitting itself in short order. If you don't have a turbo car with your boost turned up to be at the track, or running high compression NA, you don't want the stuff. You always make the best power running the lowest octane gas you can get away with.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but i didnt want to post a new one and be told to search...

I have a stock b18b in my 4door civic...

Timing is at 16deg at the moment and i have i-h-e...

Question is, will i be ok running 19 or even 20 deg timing?

We have 95 gas here in south africa, but i've been told its the equivalent of 91 in the states...

Is 20 deg too advanced, will i get detonation?

Thanks in advance

no just 18 will be good. thats what my timing is in my b18b. and it will be safer running a colder spark plug. stock is 5 , get 6 to help it run cooler when ur timing is advance and running 91.
