Rear Trailing Arm Bushings
I have a 93 civic dx coupe. I just did a rear disc conversion, with trailing arms from a 92 integra. I also decided to replace the rotted out bushings in the new trailing arms.
I got bushing from engergy suspension or prothane..... cant recall now..... but..... i got the bushing that require you to reuse "all metal parts". So after burning (thats what they told me to do) the old bushing out with a propane torch, and cleaning the outer shell with a wire brush, I inserted the metal pin in to the new bushings....... Now, on the OEM bushings, there is a inner metal shell, which is basically just 2 small curved pieces of metal. This "inner shell" will not fit the new bushings, and the new bushings would not have fit in without removing this "inner shell".
Ok, so i went ahead and mounted the new bushings in the trailing arm and mounted everything back up to the car. Now there is a small gap between 1/8 and 1/4 of an inch in between the bottom of the bushing and the outer metal shell. But its not like it can go anywhere......... Is this a problem?? Ive got pics if anyone wants to see what im talking about.

ok those are resized now....... it seems that the passengers side one is ok now that its mounted up..... i cant see the top of it so im not sure.... but it appears the drivers side one has slipped out of the shell a little bit........ has ANYONE done this themselves before??? did i do something wrong??? btw sorry if it takes me awhile to post im still in this lame trial stage....... lol......
as you stated

Inner shell should be there and the bushing is a very tight fit (grease will help)
done this **** number of times with hyperflex trailing arm bushing ..

When using Energy bushings on a 92-95 you do not use the two metal pieces that are "in" the stick bushing. The spot where these two pieces are mounted in the bushing is not in the energy bushing and would requiring ruining the bushing to put them in the "same place" . The mount for the bushing is tapered and the energy bushing be big enough to sqeeze in from the big end and the slip out the tight end after pounding it through. The lip on the bushing should be covering both ends of the bushing mount.
It looks like you have the wrong size bushings to me

OK..... i hear what you are all saying..... the INNER metal shells do not "conform" to the same curvature as the bushings and like eyewitness said, trying to get them in there would screw something up. I ordered these bushing for my 93 civic dx. But after I ordered them I decided to do the disc brake conversion. I was going to return them and order some fore a 92 integra, because that is what I got the trailing arm off of. BUT, I noticed that on the box it said "92-95 civic and 90-93 integra". So I figured it should be ok! I got them from http://www.suspension.com has anyone dealt with them?
