Default d16 vtec in ef models. how are you guys running vtec

i think im going to purchase another crx and id want to do a minime for one of my first mods. my prob is i have never ran d16 vtec in an ef. a few locals are doing it but they have a window switch and i reallydont like that idea. another local has a reprogrammed ls computer with an apex i to activate vtec.

i also thought of using a pr3 or pw0 but i thought that might be too much fuel for my pretty much stock d16

I don't have it running yet but to activate my Vtec I just got an MSD RPM switch. Also if you have one of those huge *** tach's with the adjustable RPM shiftlight, you can wire the vtec into the shiftlight and set the RPM to whatever you need/want.

One of the most common are probably using the VAFC, and you can find them fairly cheap now that Version 2 has came out.

that sounds good. if and when i do get this crx i may just wait and do the head with a zc piston block and the boltons with a skunkmani. im sure with a fpr id be good to lean it out a bit.

thanks for the pointers everybody

yea i'd say go for the p29's and maybe even a cam.....this motor really surprised me, the first time i ran the car i only ran a 16.1 then after tuning i ran a 14.5 i know with some better traction she will be good for 13's. good luck.

I've got a switch hooked up to the throttle linkage in the engine. its mounted so that the throttle spindle hits it at WOT. so basically whenever i go full throttle i got VTEC. It works great.

dam thats pretty cool. ive never heard of it. id like to go with something that lets me control my engine though not just activating vtec. like an ecu actually has function with fuel and ****.

ya the p29 or the pm7. i have them both. i also have a bullfrog cam but ive been thinking of buying a skunk2 stg 1 that is for sale here on the forum just to try it out. or going with a bullfrog head or a complete package from wil at exospeed. im just keeping my options open basically.

I activate the VTEC in my car with the MSD activated switch....i would suggest going another route.

I have the fuel pressure regulated fine for normal driving, but as soon as it hits VTEC, it gets a little lean. Of course, if i put it up for VTEC, it would probably run rich when not on VTEC

This in my opinion would be the best option...but get an ecu chipped for better VTEC activation point and a higher redline
