need help my daily driver is down
I have a 96 civic d16y8 vtec and I have a very loud ticking sound coming from the engine I have asked several peoples opinions some say bent rod, I need a valve adjustment, spun a bearing. I just need some more opinions and I need to decide what to do. I am on a tight budget so either a ls swap maybe or a rebuild with higher compression ratio. I am afraid to drive the thing the ticking is so loud. I won't go over 2k rpm. at first it was only when I pressed on the gas but now it does it at idle as well. also noticed it a few days ago very faint like the same sound that my tranny made when the main bearing in that went so I thought it was that again since I got a used tranny, but then it got worse a lot worse. Please help me out Thanks

The Y8 motors are becoming a sore point for Honda. ALOT are failing due to bent/broken rods, spun bearings, and MAJOR piston slap. Local dealer replaces about 3-4 short blocks a week.
Same thing just happened to my d16y8, Sounded like a valve ticking
1st I adjusted the valves, then I rebuilt the head thinking maybe it was a broken guide or stuck valve.
Then I decided to pull the oil pump because thats where some of the noise was coming from.
When I pulled the oil pan I found CHUNKS of metal.
STOP DRIVING YOUR CAR NOW and pull your oil pan and take a look (takes a few minutes)
I spun two rodbearings and I was on the way to destroying two mains.
I also completely cooked one rod, and another was half-baked.
So now I am rebuilding the whole motor. I only wish I had enough money for a b18c
You said you are waiting for a B18C... well now is the time!
Good luck
