Setup: 12.3:1 cr lsvtec

here is what happened.....

driving one day on the freeway, doing about 80 in 5th.. needed to change lanes - dropped 4th, punched to about 100... oppps car in my way, dropped 4th.... held compression, then braked... dropped 3rd held compression to 7500 - 8k rpms to slow down

5 mins later.... came off the freeway, cruising i heard a tapping sound as i rev to 4k rpms.... dang sounds like i need a valve adjustment

parked the car, checked it out... on idle.. motor is quiet, give it a little gas... tap,tap,tap... the sound i hear between 1k and 4k rpms

that evening i checked the valves... #2 intake was a loose, adjuster may have backed off due to high rpms.

Note: it is a stock B16 valve train.....

Readjusted valved... but the sound still remainds


What you guys think????

The motors runs great, no smoke, no loss of power, just an anoying tapping noise.
It does not sound like the knock of a rod... spun bearing but i am not sure!!


I hope its nothing serious...

What injectors are you running? Some honda injectors are known for "ticking".

I got the same prob. I can hear one of my injectors ticking through a straight-thru 2.5" exhaust at 7k rpm's.
I tried 93 octane and fuel injector cleaner.... nada

I dont know what to say except to turbo it and use DSM 450's... thats what im having to do :-D

Hopefully you just need a valve adjustment, nothing bent/broken or maybe even piston slap.

sounds like u may have bent a valve. or if its super loud, u may have chipped ur piston too.

Could also be a rod bearing problem where it's not bad enough to hear at idle.
