need help with my swap! please
i have a 90 civic si with a d16y8 from a 98 ex im swapping in. we are using the si's wire harness. which conversion plug do i need to run the y8 ecu?
also how can i run the y8 intake manifold? will all the plugs match up? what injectors and fuel rail can i use?
i tried searcheing and didnt come up with anythng that helped me out. sorry for the noob questions. im new to the b series. i had the 02 si nicely modded, and it was my first honda so i learned the k series first. due to insurnace reasons im parking that and building my self an all motor vtech y8 since my 02 si has no real vtech and cost to much to drive..
thanks

Funny Funny.. This is the exact same swap I did except I have a 89 crx with the D16Y7 motor.. Like sodacan33 said, Just use the pm6 ecu and youll be good.. I always tell people.. The ecu doesnt know what car its in or what motor its powering and the motor doesnt know what car its in or what ecu/obd version its being powered by..
You can either use obd0 injectors with a resistor box or obd1 injectors.. If it were me I would shitcan that obd2 y8 manifold and use an d16z6 obd1 manifold.. Its alot eaiser to use them and they dont have the throttle body on top of the intake.. But that is left up for arguement..
Oh, and I can tell your new to the b series because a d16y8 is a d series motor..
If you have any technical questions about this swap just IM me and ill answer..
Also you can use your regular si harness that you have now but you will have an extra plug on the motor.. This is the "I think" Crank Fluctuation sensor.. Either way you dont need it with obd0 or obd1.. I would just install the motor and run either the pm6 ecu or get an obd1 conversion harness and run a p28 so then youll have "VTEC"
control..
Forgot to mention.. The manifold in the front is the exhaust one so dont think your working on a k series and touch it while its hot..

hahaha lmao. you got me with d series and b series thing.
ok great info. god i love forums lol. ok so what is a pm6 si ecu? is that the one out of my si? if not out of what? whats it rev limiter at? do i need a harness?
the d16z6 manifold will work better u say? i found one cheap with everything. is it from a vtech motor? my vtech is suffreing from the little intake manifold. what injectors do i need for this? the z6 or mine?

if your still going to use the y8 im, use a auto y8 because the iacv is a diffrent plug, 3 prong vs 2 prong. i had that problem one time when i swapped a y8 into mine just for fun.
good luck
good luck
this might seem a little off the wall to some of you but it works but if you pop the case open on you pm6 theres a auto trans lockup solenoid pin q16 that you can wire to your 1 wire vtec solenoid and will kick in around 5200 there are a few other ways to but i would just but a vafc because you can use it in the long run to help tune

no i understand this for the most part.. i was thinking of running my pm6 ecu with a msd ignition switch to activate vtech. willl this work if i run the pm6 ecu? i found a jun pm6 ecu for less then a hundred is this worth the investment? it has everthing a chip should have. raised rev limiter, advanced timing and ignitions, and a remapped fuel map. does it matter that its not a vtech ecu even if i run a msd ignition switch. thanks for the help guys
well chances are its not a jun but keep in mind a rev. lim , an so on will do no good for you inless it is tuned for your car. A rev limit increase will nt help you due to the fact that you dont have a ported intake, head, and built head so it cant flow more at high rev. Please do not gve in to these ebay "chiped" ecu's there are not what you think. If you want to learn alot about ecu's an how to burn custom programs to your ecu with some easy mods go to http://www.pgmfi.org, http://www.turboedit.org. Please feel free to pm me if you would like your ecu modded

the y8 TB is just like the a6 or z6, on the side, facing pass side of the car. mabye you're new to the D-series huh
and the y8 intake manifold flows the best of the d-series.

the ecu your lookin at is not a jun, jun is only a p28 1992-95,p72 1994-95,p30 1992-95 ecu thats jdm and its redline is 9800 and vtec is 5800 on the 92-95 p28 jun. Maybe a jun porgram in it but theres no way people are goin rev there d series up to 9800 when its almost stock

Im not new to d-series at all I just never seen a y8 manifold.. On one of the diagrams that I looked at it showed it with the throttlebody on top of the intake just like how the 01+ civics are..

Ahh yes.. It was a y7 one.. I assumed they were all the same between vtec and non-vtec.. Like how the z6 and b7 are the same..

wow great info! good looking out guys. yea i think its chipped with a jun chip. not the actual ecu. can i rev the y8 out to 8200 on the stock valve train without floating valves? i want more revs . 6800 rpms with a vtech motor sucks.
so everyone knows all this info is helping me a great deal. thanks again for setting the d/b series noob straight lol
so everyone knows all this info is helping me a great deal. thanks again for setting the d/b series noob straight lol
Why do you want more revs.. If your peak hp and torque have already passed why keep reving further when your just dropping out of your power band..
cause once i figure out this swap. im doing all the head work. a pnp job with a stage 2 cam and other valve train components. so im just prepping for the head work.
think of it this way lets say stock redline is 8200 and your running a chiped ecu that has a redline of 8900 you have no valves, cams, retainers, etc just oem and even if you did your intake mani will only flow so much in its stock sence. So in order to make power past the stock powerband you need to port/polish the mani to get more air flow, then make sure the head components can keep up, then from there new rods and pistons because a stock rod is not made to rev 8900 on those motors. dont get me wrong it can but it wont last...
