Default Tackled the Rear Main Seal today...

well after fixing my oil pan and still having oil leak through where my tranny and engine meet we decided the rear main seal had gone...the procedure went pretty good....started work at 1030am...had to take out the axle, then loosen the mounts and take out the tranny then get the pressure plate, clutch and flywheel off (broke our impact socket during this)..here she is all fixed up

putting the car back together, cleaning the flywheel yada yada

Putting the tranny back in was the hardest part, after we put the tranny back on we realized the reverse wire was stuck and we had to undo it all over again to pull it out.
...finishing up

got done at 630, no leaks so far ive got my fingers crossed that i dont have to spend any more money

How much does the rear main seal cost?

I'm out of school for the summer with nothing but time to kill and I know mine is leaking.

the main seal was $14 we did the axle seals too they were like $8 and $9 a piece...it was easy just taking the tranny out was the bitch

as for the clutch and flywheel its an ACT 8lb flywheel with ACT 6puck clutch and extreme pressure plate makes the clutch pedal hard as hell

For anyone doing the rear main seal, a little tip. Sometimes it does not want to go on, one side always wants to pop out. Well line the rear main seal up like your gonna try to hammer it in but then bolt up the flywheel and it will do the job for you.

I am dreading replacing the rear main seal, not in my honda, but i have a shelby csx shadow, 2.2l turbo rear main is leaking on it as i have already replaced every other seal, considered just pulling the whole motor and then take it apart as to trying to replace seal / pull just tranny. Oh well. If it was a honda I woulda already pulled the dang motor out and had it done, just dread pulling the motor since never worked on a dsm before lol

are you in PA?

if so, my cousin may need to replace the rear main seal on a car he might buy...was wondering if you could give us a hand considering neither of us tried this before. We do no want anything to go wrong.. maybe a little guidence from you would help us out a lot. Possibly throw you a couple of bucks for your inconvenience?

i go to school for automotive technology..
im very mechanically inclined.. it's just this project i've never touched on before..
We have air tools at school and work..
i work at Ardmore Acura.. and go to school at Lincoln tech..

i think 1/2 inch sockets & a breaker bar should be just fine..
