Default Bad ECU.

okay. ive got a cel that stays on. the car is a 88 crx hf with a b16 xsi swap with a pr3 ecu. i guess my battery was bad and lost all charge and that was why i wasn't even getting the cel but after getting it charged today ive got the cel coming on. i used blown90hatchs conversion harness. is there anything i could do wrong while converting to obd1 that would give me a constant cel. that does mean i have a bad ecu correct? also, i hear the pr3 ecu is a nice ecu and was wanting to stay with it. is there anything i can do to fix it. is there a tool where i can check to actually see if the ecu is bad or not. or what other cars can i find a pr3 in? im also not getting spark. i thought maybe since im getting this constant cel (bad ecu) that was why im not getting spark. thanks to anyone who can help.

doesn't mean you have a bad ecu;
could be a couple of things; double check all your wiring

go tighten the bolt that holds the thermostat ground on. and make sure the ground is actually there too.

try a known good obd1 ecu see if it works;
swap ecus with some car and see if yours works in that car or the others works in your car....

i assume only a b series ecu will plug up? im pretty sure i know i can't use a d series, or can i? also, is there any specific wires that i can check. ive pretty much gone over my wiring about 3 times and i can't find any noticable problems. i know i have power at least getting to the distributor and ive put a new coil and ignitor in the distributor. i still need to change my plugs and wires, but i can't see a reason as to why i wouldn't at least get a little spark.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by Origin &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">i assume only a b series ecu will plug up? im pretty sure i know i can't use a d series, or can i?</TD></TR></TABLE>

And OBD1 ECU will plug in, but if you're not going to chip the ecu, stick with a PR3 (OBD1) or P30 ECU.

okay. i tried my ecu on my girlfriends auto 93 civic ex and it started right up with a check engine light. so i took her ecu and put it on the crx and having the same problem. the only light showing is the battery light, but i just got it charged and they told me it was still good. i know i have power going to the distributor. should i try a multimeter and see if the signal is actually powerful enough? remember the coil, ignitor, rotor and cap is good so know that shouldn't be my problem. as far as my grounds go i have tranny, valve cover and i have two coming off the thermo housing. i have the wire harness grounded to the thermo housing and then just for and extra grounding i have to the right of that a 4 gauge wire coming off of it to another part of my body. so im pretty sure my grounds are all in check. i found out why the check engine light was on, which is now fixed, but im not getting the gas light, seat belt light, or e brake light. does this sound unusual to anyone? thanks in advace to anyone who can help.

will that cause problems? ill try it either way. also, most of you know that on the original ground for the valve cover you have to separate terminals (not sure if thats the correct term) connected to the valve cover then meeting as one to the body (stock at least). i only have one ground wire going straight to the body. can this cause problems?

okay. i took off the extra ground off the thermostat. if you look right at it there are two holes to where you can attatch the ground. does it matter which hole? when i took off the extra ground and im still not getting spark.

another funny thing i have found is that when i turn the key to turn on the accessories all i get is a battery light, but when i turn the hazards on and off real quick the rest of the lights will come on. (oil, seat belts, ebrake) and im also throwing a full cell. again i tried my ecu in my girlfriends car and it started right up so i don't think my ecu is my problem, but why am i throwing the full cell.

im getting very tired of this car. can anyone please help?
